tho district was reprosonteil at tho ses

city's clergymen occupied platform scats.
Tho most enthusiastic meeting was tho
rally of tho International convention c6m
mlttcos in Jontral Hull. Every scat was
occupied and scores of porsous stood dur
ing tho ontiro session. Tho meeting was
addressed by President Clark and by John
Willis Baer, general secretary ot itho
United Society of Christian Endeavor,
both of whom camo from Boston for tho
express purpose- of conferring with the of
ficers of tho commltteo of '00 and of seeing
and speaking to tho rank and lllo of tho
workers.
Secretary Baer talked on "Tho respon
sibility of tho individual workor," and as
his momory was fresh with tho achieve
ment of tho Boston commltteo In charge
ot tho '03 convention his points and sug
gestions wero oxceedlugly practical. He
was followed by President Clark, whose
subject was "Spiritual blessings to bo ex
pected from tho '90 convention."
Strong resolutions upon tho Armenian
question, tho saloon and Sabbath observ
ance were adopted.
Tho vast commltteos, composed of 3,000
persons, havo already begun work for tho
national convention. Tholr organization
Is complete, and very soon thoy will un
dertake lha detail work ot canvassing the
city for accommodations and making tho
assignments of churches. The ball com
mltteo has mado contracts for tho erection
of three mammoth tents. A joint resolu
tion was recently introduced in the senato
and (house, tho purport ot which Is to
grant tho Bocloty permission to use the
.large reservation In tho rear of the execu
tive for the purposes of the convention,
and here tho tents will be pitched Tho,
seating capacity of these tents will be 1U,
000 each, and In addition to tho tents ar
rangements will bo mado to oonduot over
flow and simultaneous meetings In a dozen
ehurchos conveniently located. Tho music
will bo led by n chorus composed of 3,000
ooys, which will include the entire mem
bership of the famous Moody oholr.
Besides having a hotel headquarters
each state will havo a headquarters at one
of the city churches. Pennsylvania, with a
delegation of 7,000, has boon assigned to
tho Calvary Baptist church. New York to
the Church of tho Covenant, Massachu
setts to tho First. Congregational church
and Indiana to tho Vermont Avenue
Christian church. Tho churches will be
kept open during tho ontiro convention,
and hero tho delegates will receive their
mail. Tho commltteo expect that, at tho
lowest calculation, (50,000 delegates will be
registered at the July convention. Recent
indications are that tho number will bo
nearer 75,000.

Pittsburg, Jan. 30. W. C. Moroland,
ex-clty attornoy, and his former assistant,
W. H. House, against whom additional
criminal charges were entered Friday
evening, accusing them of having embez
zled over $10,000 of city monoy within tho
last fourtoon days.of tholr term of office,
on Saturday furnished bull iu $15,000 ouch
on the now charge. On the original charges

this city, a well known pugilist, of more
than local celebrity, was, arrested lost

afternoon at 2103 South Third .street, and
lasted only fpur rounds, Bartley being

tempted to catch tho horse by the bridle.
Tho animal, howevor, became frightened

took effect.

gmalley, a noted counterfeiter nnd house

beries. His capture was effected only after

A Deadly Nightmare.
Cbnthalia, Pa., Jan. 20. While rock
ing his 2-year-old daughter to sleep Jamos
Gaughn fell Into a deep slumber himself,
He suffered from a horrible nightmare,
