The furniors of Washington, Wayno and
both M.iuhoim township, as annouueed in
theso columns, held a public meeting Satur
day afternoon to pmtest against the mis
management at tho county alnishonso, and a
reduction in the halary lists. II. S. Wenrich,
of Wayne, presided, and James A. Kershnor
acted as secretary. Tho principal bpouker
was August Kuecht, editor of tho Aincri-
kniiischer Itcpuhllkimcr, and the business of
the meeting was conducted in the German
1 inguago. A committee was appointed to
draw up resolutions, which will contain nd
vlco as to the host .-ytem for conducting the
buiiueis and suggest remedies against tho
growing ovils at that institution. Tlio com
mittee will meet next Thursday.

A large crowd was attracted by a fight on
the rwvementin front of Holdermaii'sjewelry
storo, nt about half imtt nine o'clock Saturday
nlght4und for a time tho show windows of
the storo were In danger of being wrecked.
Policeman Leo arrived and, forcing his way
through tho crowd, caught hold of John
Young and William Saggets, two Polos, who
woro striking at two men who succeeded in
golting away. Upon being tiken before
Justice Williams tho Poles said thoy were
walking along Lloyd street, between Jardln
and Main, when thoy met William Becker
and Petor Dillman, who Insisted upon having
a fight. Thoy followed tho Poles to Main
street nnd nttaeked them. Y'oung was pretty
badly cut and bruised. Upon the statement
Pollcoman Lec, armed with a warrant, went
in search of Becker and Dillman and arrested
thcln. They woro drunk, A glass was
taken from tho pocket of ono of thorn in tho
Justice's offico after a llttlo sculllo. Tliolr
actions and statement practically cbnflrmcd
tho-stories told by tho Poles and they wore
committed for trial at court in default of
$300 ball, each, but subsequently tho ball
was furnished. Young was discharged, hut
saggcis was lined ?s nlul costs for being un
ruly on tho way to tho Justice's ofllco and
causing a disturbance while there.

doah foot ball team went to Pottsvillo Satur
day to play tho Minersvillo team at Dolan's
inrk, but tlio gamo fell through on account
of tho latter team failing to securo a suffi
cient number Of men to fill tho positions.
Only nino could bo scraped togethor. Man
ager Fahey complains that tho Miners' Jour
nal did him a great injustice by its reference
to tho aflair this morning. Ho emphatically
denies that ho scooped tho bos receipts and
skipped homeward, and claims it was under
stood that tlio gamo was to bo played in timo
to allow him to tako tho 4:40 train from
Tottsville, so that he could arrive homo in
time to attend to pay day business. A col
lection was taken up to pay him for tho
troublo and expense ho had been put to in
taking tho team to Pottsvillo and it amounted
to a little over nino dollars. At tho ap
pointed timo ho started for home, leaving
his team behind to play in caso Minersvillo
should succeed in gottiug in shapo, and tlio
gamo was not declared off until somo time
after ho had loft tlio grounds. Mr. Fahey
rays ho had nothing to do with the box re
ceipts and his action in tho matter was per
fectly straight.
