This is ono of tho most valuablo water
franchises in tho county. Tho water is a
pure mountain stream, outside of tho coal
measuros, and has novor been known to
fail. Even during tho groat drouth of tho
past summer tho streams novor diminished,
and flowed with forco enough to supply
several towns, if necessary.
Tlio price agreed upon is $7,000. and the
borough will spend an additional $30,000 to
furnish tho peoplo with tho water. A pump
ing station will bo orectcd at Gordon to forco
thewatorto Girardville,
Tlio first idoa was to pump tho water to the
top of tho mountiin south of this town, and
construct a reservoir there, from which point
tho water would naturally flow to all parts of
the borough, but on the report of Alexander
Potter, t'. E., of Now York, who made a care
ful study of tho ground, it has now been do
cided to construct tho pipo lino directly to
Girardville, by way of Fountaiu Springs, and
on down along the baso of tho Tunnel moun
tain, and thenco to Girardville. Tho Stato
hospital can thus bo supplied with anabund
anceof water, If other means of securing It
should fail.
To do this will cost considerably less monoy
than if the water was pumped to tho top of
the mountiin. Tho plan has boon thoroughly
invested, and found practical 111 every respect,
Tho sito for a reservoir is an admirable ono,
and the conditions aro favorablo to a novor
ceasing wntcr supply.
