A Double Lynching May Occur. ,

prevails In tho llttlo suburban villago of
Benton, eight mllos west of this city, on
tho Missouri Paoiflo railway. John O'Gor
man. an expressman at that place, was
shot aiid mortally wounded by n pair of
murderous robbers who ontcrcd tho saloon
of William Wagner. O'Gorman grappled
with the men, one of whom shot him.
They then fled with tho cash drawer. A
posse of citizens is In pursuit, nnd a lynch
ing may occur if they are caught.

What Causes It ?
Mrs. Peter Hiloy, rosiding at the cornor of
West and Oak streets, was to-day reported to
tho Board of Health as a victim of typhoid
fever. The health authorities are considering
the advisability of making a thorough investi
gation of that neighborhood. Two cases of
typhoid fever and a ease of dlplithoria have
developed in it within tho past two weeks in
three different families. Tho sanitary
regulation! appear to bo satisfactory.

Bobbius' hall last night was a brilliant event.

Killed at I.awrenco Colliery.
Edward Shaffer, a repairman residing at
Frackville, was instantly killed at the
Lawrence culliery,Malanoy Plane, yesterday,
lie was a general workman and yesterday
took the place of the spragor, who wasabscnt. j
lie put in the sprags anil jumped on tno last
car, which was loaded high. Ho camo in
contact with a collar, knocking itoll'tho legs,
and it fell upon Shaffer with about two car
loads of coal, killing him instantly. The de
ceased was 23 years of ago and left a wlfo and
two children.
