derous expeditions. 1 notified tho Scotland
Yard authorities, but at that tlmo thoy
refused to co-operato with mo. Subse
quently the young man was placed In con
finement and removed to a lunatic asylum,
where ho Is today. Sluco his Incarceration
there hns been no rcptition of the horrible
murders that he perpetrated.
These facts aro all known to tho English
authorities, and It Is conceded that tho
man now In tho asylum Is "Jaok tho Kip
per." It was deemed desirable, however,
to hush tho matter up. Tho details were
too horriblo to bo made tho subject or a
publlo trial, and there was no doubt of the
man's hopeless Insanity.

McDonald, United States fish commis
sioner, died yesterday morning ut his resi
dence In this city. Mr. McDonald had been
suffering from pulmonary trouble since

tional feud Is reported to havo been re
newed In Trigg county. In July Colonel
Stone killed a man named Hammond and

small fights followed, but no very serious
trouble occurred until a day or two ago,
when tho opposing forces met and aro said

reached a momentous period. Ireland,
ulMUdoncd in tin. crisis of her fate by th
Liberal leaders, K told by the Tory secre
tary to the lord lieutenant that the British
government is sternly aud unalterably ap
posed to tin- grauting of any meBdurt ol
home rule whatever. This is tho old policy
and the language employed by miceesslvo
English governments toward Ireland. She
bus been alternately betrayed by tho Wlite
und dragooned liy tho Tories. Nothing
worth her acceptance is to bo oxpected

Ireland must, therefore, look to Her
own Children and their descendants Tor
support in her great extremity. Parlia
mentary agitation hns had a long and
patient trial, but has utterly failed to
accomplish Its object. It remains for us
to consider what other method of proceed-
ure or argument can bo used to achieve
her liberation.

ous struggle for liberty aro Invited to send
one delegate for overy fifty members, nnd
one additional for every fraction over fifty;
two delegates for every hundred members,
and ono additional for any fraction over a
hundred, and so on In proportion."
Fiendish Attempt to Wreck a Train.
Pittston, Ph., Sept. 2. Shortly after
midnight Saturday night an attempt was
madoto wreck Lehigh Valley passenger
train No. 2, bound west. Tho attempt was
mado at Tomkin's Switch, where tho lino
skirts tho bunks of the Susquehanna river,
and had It; succeeded tho train, consisting
of fl vo well filled sleepers, three day coaches
and two baggage cars, would have plunged
down a twenty feet embankment Into tho
river. Tho train was fortunately a half
hour behind time, when a track walker
discovered n heap of timbers, ties and
boulders on tho track, and Hugged tho
train, which was approaching at high
speed.

At Work Under Military Guard.
ISIU'EMING, Mich., Sept. 2. Seven com
panics of the state militia, under oommand
of Colonel Lyon, arrived here this morn
ing to protect tho shovelers who started to
work at the Lake Angellno, Uiko Superior
and Cleveland mines. The strikers had
threatened to forcibly oppose tho deputies
who hiwl been sworn In to protect the
workers, hence the call for troops. It Is
not Ix-lioved that thore will lie any attempt
mado to oppose tho military.
