BLOOMIKGTON, Ills.. Aug. 29. A cloud
burst, accompanied by a tornado, swept
the vicinity of Illoomlngton last evening,

Eight Drowned in n Waterspout.
ST. Louis, Aug. 29. A special from
Zacatecas, Mexico, says that the vlllagoof
Huatingo was visited by a watorspout on
Monday, causing great loss of llfo and
proporty. Many of thohousos wore washed
nway and eight persons met doath by
drowning. The flood nlso destroyed all
the crops in tho llttlo valley. Tho storm
came up very suddenly, npd tho water
spout burst directly over the towu.
Arab Village Destroyed by Cloudburst.
Constantinople, Algoria, Aug. 29.
There wrts a oloudburst yesterday ovonlng
in tho district of Sldl Alch, which caused
enormous dnmngo. An Arab vlllngo was
destroyod. Fourteen persons who wero
killed and sixteen others severoly injured
have been removed from the ruins.

Boston, Aug. 29. Dick O'Brien, of
Lewlston, champion middleweight of

manufacturers to do the same.
The wenvers' committee of Bachman's
omployes mot the firm yostorday morn
ing. Tho firm agreed to grant them the
lncreaso on tho worsted goods, but not on
cotton goods. The prosont sehedulo tho
firm Is paying is ono nud a halt mills a
pick on ono loom jobs, on worsted goods,
and on two looms elghty-ono ono-hun-
dredths mills; on cotton goods, two
looms, they pay soveuty-flvo one-hun-drodths
mills.
Tho wonvers refused to nccept this offor,
and gave the manufacturers until today

Death of Ilx-I'ollco Justice nnfT.
New York, Aug. 29. A dispatch from
Toms Rlvor, N. J., announces tho doath
of ox-PolIco Justice Patrick O. Duffy, of
this city. Ex-Judgo Duffy was born in
Ireland nearly sixty years ago, and enmo
to this country oarly in tho sixties. He
bceamo a toachor in tho public schools of
New York aud soon afterward wont into
politics. In 1875 Mayor Wickliam ap
pointed the schoolmastor police justice,
and he was reappointed In 1883 for tho
full term, which expired In 1S93. The
little judge, as ho was called, was a
unique flguro on tho bench. It was his
greatest delight to joko at tho oxpenso of
tho drunks and disorderlies who woro
taken before him, and many n mun wont
froe for having made a timely jest. Tho
judge married Miss Mamie Cullea, of
