Titman and llobcrt Dongler Thrown From a Carriage ;tM, NITHER SERIOUSLY HURT, Tho Cnrrtneo Wns Mndo a Wreolc nnd tho Horses Unruly Escaped Tumblluir Into a Deep Mlno Hreoob. A thrilling runaway took place yesterday afternoon and II. W. Tltmau, of tho City Supply Company, and Bobert Dengler, an employe of the Grand TJnlon Tea Company, had very narrow escapes from fatal In juries. They were driving a team of frisky horses in which Mr. Titman takes great pride. When near the entrance to ono of tho cemeteries ou Locust Mountain one of the horses got the hit between its teeth and mndo a dash. Messrs. Tltmau and Dengler were thrown from the carriage by tho sudden burst of speed, but fortunately neither was seriously hurt. Mr. Tittnan's escape Is looked upon as bordering on the miraculous, as his physical proportions are not such as to permit much agility He seemed to have landed ou the right spot, however, and was all right after ho recovered from tho shock. The horses continued on a mad run down the mountain road, having a clear track. When about half way down the carriage caught in a stump at the Ride of tho road and the speed of the team was rnoineu' tarily checked. Tho horses plunged two or three times and broke away from the carriage, dragging only tho swlugletrees after them. A young man stood In the bend of the road at the foot of the moun tain and when they neared him the horses turned suddenly to the green north of the Baird property and barely escaped plung ing Into an immense mluo breach. They were stopped when but five feet from the brink. The horses lost two shoes In their flight and a hoof of ono of them was badly cut. Tho horses were by no means jnded by their dash and it was with dlfli culty that they were prevented from run nlng away a second time. They wero placed In tholr stalls and several boys hauled the wrecked carriage down to the stable, Messrs. Tltmau and Dengler were able to walk to their homes. Special This Week. I was on the street near Bender's place at about ten minutes before the first fight and Mr. Ben der came out and told mo to go home, that no ono was going to harm me. I then walked up towards my house. Between 12 and 1 o'clook Beuder came out of his back door, followed by a gang of men, and started up the road towards William Richards' house. When opposite tho house ho turned to his followers and shouted, "Come on, boys, come on this way; wo will sweep the. d n patch," and then ho fired a shot. He walked about thirty yards and fired another shot. When he returned he fired two shots In tho direction of my bouse before ho went into his own house. William Tagoaiit. "Wm. Fenn, July 12, 1895.
