FRIDAY, JUNE 28, 1893.
This lias been a regular old-fashlonod
Juno month locally. Marriages liavo been
numerous.
Remember that tbo Fourth of July is
near at hand anil it requires some work to
make a proper demonstration.
Some circus people no doubt aro con
vinced by this time that it is unhealthy
and expensivo to fool with tho law as dis
pensed in Shenandoah.
Weli., thauk goodness, tho water works
are once more on the move. If tho pipes
are tested tomorrow we may And how the

inents of tho Borough Council take place,
It Is with much satisfaction that the sign
ing of the tax collectors' bill is recorded.
This bill was introduced by Hon. Joseph
"Wyatt, the representative from this dis
trict, and we believe it will prove of great
value. Tho result will bo such, if the law
tu mifnreeil. that UO citizen in favor of
honest elections will have cause to com
plain. Tho law provides that the tax col
lectors of boroughs and townships shall
issue numbered tax receipts. The main
object is to prevent several peoplo from
voting on one receipt. Heretofore it has
been an exceedingly easy matter for people
of the foreign classes to make almost un
limited use of a single tax receipt at tho
election polls. It has been charged that as
many as fifteen men have used one receipt,
Under the new law the number of a tax
receipt can bo readily noted and, as figures
can't lie, a halt can bo more readily called
if tho same number turns up more than
once than it can when only a comparison
of names is depended upon.
It Mny Do as Much for You.
