A Natural Gas Export Makes a Dis
covery In Cnunda. Canada Gets
tho Services of Oar Natural Gas
Expert and GItcs Us, In Re
turn, a Yaluablo Dis
covery. Natural gas has becomo 80 Important a
factor in tho increased facilities for cheaper
manufacturing that many havo turned
from other vocations In lifo to study and
perfect the modes of transmitting it to our
larger cities, but out of tho many who have
seen in it a great field for improvement
and taken up the subject, few, very few,
becomo experts, and only those of peculiar
adaptabilities can hope for success. Mr.
T J. Driscoll, of Pittsburg, Pa., isonoof
these favored few. In tho Pennsylvania
oil regions ho Is well known, and the fame
of his ability at piping natural gas spread
to Canada. Ho was engaged by tho On
tario Gas Company, to pipe gas for Wind
sor and AValkcrvillc, and while perform
ing this operation, which he successfully
accomplished, lie mado tho discovery of a
remedy which ho speaks of as follows.
We give his story in his own words:
"I havo been suffering with n kidney
affliction which has troubled me moro or
less for years. I have tried many of the
remedies on the market for such com
plaints without any relief. During an en
gagement with the Ontario Natural Gas
Company, while piping the city of Wind
sor for natural gas, I had tho good fortune
to hear of Doan's Kidney Pills. I pro
cured some and commenced taking them
with tho most beneficial results. I havo
not felt as well in years, and I feel that it
is all due to the agency of Doan's Kidney
Pills. I feci llko a new man, with an am.
bition in life, and wish every success duo
to such a wonderful medicine."

ClIlCAOO.May 81. In ono corner of Oak-
woods cometery thero havo stood for years
many rows of short white stones which
mark tho last resting places of 6,000 men
who In the days between '01 and '05 wore
tho Confederate gray, and who, far from
their homes and friends, scaled with their
lives their devotion to the "Lost Cause."
Today thero stands above theso lowly
stones of wblto a tall and beautiful monu
ment erected partly bv tho sons of tho
southland and partly by men of the north
to testifythe ono their lovo for their gal
lant comrades fallen In tho light, and tho
other to tho respect which heroic endur
ance aud brilliant courago must always
cvoko whon It Is based, as was tho endur
ance and courago of tho men who sleep In
Ualcwoods, upon a Arm conviction 01 jus
tice of tho cause for which they strove.
Yesterday abovo those (trass grown
mounds the grizzled veterans of tho Grand
Army of the Republic and tho whlto haired
warrior of tuo south clasped hands ana re
alized that tho war Is over. Tho roses 01
tho north fell In profusion upon tho graves
of tho Confederate dead, and over tho rest
ing places of many of those who wore the
bluo woro scattered tho magnolia blos
soms of tho south and by tho hands of
those who hud fiercely sought In battle
tho lives of tho silent sleepers who lay
bolow.
Tho dedication of tho Cor'derato mon
ument yesterday marked sutj a blondlng,
or rather suoh an eradication of the two
great sections, as tho nation has rarely
seon before. Sldo by sldo with tho men
who sont Pickett's bravo Virginians
against Gibbon's wall of steel on Ceme
tery ridgo stood tho men who stoutly
hurled back Hood's mad charges at Frank
lin Longstroet and Schofleld. Elbow to
elbow stood tho men who led the best
blood of tho south behind tho guidons of
Stuart and ho who was tho cavalier par
excollcnco of Sheridan's famous cavalry-
Fltzhugh Leo, Hampton and Wesley Mer-
rltt.
Thero woro prcsont any number of other
men who had borne their part uobly and
with distinction, and others of the rank
and fllo who fought as bravely and
marched as well, but found no glory save
that which hung around tho coloM of the
army In whoso ranks thoy fought. These
men, who so often had stood against each
other In tho shook of battle, stood yester
day with oyes dimmed with tears while
tho cannon which had borne their part on
both sides of tho fratricidal struggle, and
which will now stand around tho monu
ment, wero spiked and forever sllcucedby
tho hands of their women.
This was tho most impressive portion of
the ceremonies thatof monumontlng the
guns. Tho four cannons U6cd in tho cere
mony formed part of a Federal battery
during tho war. Thoy wero captured from
tho Union forces In tho battle ot Jlurfrees
boro, and afterwards fought on tho Con
federate sido In tho battles of Missionary
Rldgo, Hesaca, Dalton, Kenesaw Moun
tain, Peach Tree Creek, Atlanta and
Franklin. They wero recaptured by the
Federals at tho battlo of Nashville, and
did service for tho Union side during the
remainder of the war.
Thero was lovo and tears for all for
Federal and Coufederato, frionds and foo.
Thero wero ilowers and garlands for all
and if in tho uhauco of war tho men in
bluo had won tho laurel while the willow
was left for thoso In gray, no onepercelved
any distinction in tho honors given to the
memories of tho departed warriors. Luurel
and willow wero Intertwined, and, so en-
wreathed, wero laid on gravo and hung on
monument, aud no ono asked when deco
rating each grassy mouud what uniform
ho woro who rested beneath.

ClIlCAQO.MnySl. The remains of Walter
Gresham wore laid In tho vault In Oak-

to remntn until tho members of his family
nave decided upon a place of final inter
ment, either in Oakwoods or In some other

loved Chicago and tho city loved him. It
revealed yesterday tho affection It hore
him and tho esteem in which It held him

through which tho funeral cortege passed
and crowded the coinotory whllo tho hody
or tho nation's premier was being placed

never in Chicnao slnco tho day when
the dead body of Abraham Lincoln was
carried through Its streets has Chicago
testified so fully har grief for tho death of
any ono man. Tho streets and cemetery
wero paohed with a crowd so denso that
they could not bo added to without suffo
cation. For hours beforo tho tlmo set for
tho arrival of the funeral train thousands
of people stood waiting lu tho sun, which
bent down upon them with a tropical
fierceness.
As tho Iioarso passod slowly every head
was uncovered In respect to tho Illustrious

tho body was finally placed In tho vault
tho ceinotery for tho dlstonco of several
hundred feet around the vault was filled
by a crowd which stood without sound or
motion until tho last of tho rites was con
cluded. Every sphere of llfo which tho dead had
filled and adorned was represented by the
side of his bier. Tho hands which bore
his lifeless form from tho car In which it
had como from Washington wero the
hands of men who had marched and
fought with him in years gone by tho
men of tho Loyal Legion. Tho men who
walked beforo tho caskot as honorary pall

when ho graced tho federal bench and up

fearloss spirit in which ho had upheld Its
honor on tho battlefield. Thero by tho

in tho gift of tho American peopio, and
thero stood other men they of tho Grand
Army whoso hearts were full of lovo and
tho spirit of brotherhood of Walter Q.
Gresham.
At ono sldo of the vault wero drawn up
squadrons of tho famous "lighting bov
enth cavalry, and in tho background wero
tho dark bluo ranks of tho i ifteenth in
fantry. They stood motionless at present
arms, and when tho last of tho commit
ment servlco was over tho buglars of the
Seventh stepped forward, raised their bu
gles, and clear notes sounded "Taps." No
other military Uouors woro given, and the
tributes to which tho oxolted rank and
eminent services of the dead man so justly
entitled hlin were, at tho wish of tho f am
