bills. The house committee still has up
wards of 150 on baud, whluli will bo held

reading tomorrow In the house. On Wed
nesday the bill creating the county of
Quay will bo called up In tho houso for

this stage. On Tuosday evening tho op

given, a hearing by tho houso municipal
corporations committee.
Governor Hastings Is disposing of tho
bills as fast as they reach him. Ho has
very few under consideration. Among
them Is the Farr compulsory education
1)111, which will probably be signed tomor
row, along with tho othor bills not yet
acted upon. On Wednesday a mooting of
the board of pardons will be held for tho
consideration of n number of casos which
have been pending for several mouths.

Ilr. Uuontrow Declared Sane.
St. Louis, May 18. The jury In thqcaso
of Dr. Arthur Duostrow, wlfo and child
murderer, returned n vordlct declaring
mm tune, ue nas noen on trial at Union
Mo., to dotormluo his sanity, his attornoys
alleging that ho was a paranoiac. Ho will
be placed on trial. Dr. Dueetrow Is a
millionaire citizen of St. Louis, and was
charged with the brutal murder of his
wife and 4-year-old son, Tho Jury at tho
first trial disagreed, and this socond trial
tho defense set up was. Insanity.

At Atlnuiic, Iowa, on May 7, C. M.
Ailor, alias "Crip." Allor, was convicted
of deceivlngthepeopleby,BollIngavorth -
less compound, which he represented to
be Hood's Sarsapnrllla, and was sentenced
by Judge Macy to one year nt uara iuor(
in the Iowa State Penitentiary. AUor's
methods were those of n traveling fakir.
He has been traveling through Missouri,
Nebraska and Iowa, making stauds of a
day or more in each town, and represent
lnghlmelt ns an ngent under salary from
C. I. Hood & Co., and selling his concoc
tion at one dollar or fifty cents per bottle,
giving with each sale various other worth
less articles. Citizens of Grlswold, Iowa,
became suspicious and ascertaining from
a druggist that Ailor's compound was not
Hood's Sarsapnrllla, but merely colored
water, had him arrested. Three Indict
ments were found against him, the jury
convicted him otter only thirty minutes
deliberation, and he was sentenced as
above. This Incident suggests the wisdom
of purchasing medicines only of reputable
dealers whom yon know. Hood's Sarsa
parlllais never sold by peddlers, and such
offering It should bo at once reported to
the authorities, or to C. I. Hood & Co.,

TIME TABLE "CHANGES.
Only Two On the Reading: None On the
Lehigh Coal Branches.
Yesterday was the dny iflxcd for the
summer changes In the time tables of
the" Philadelphia and Reading and Le
high Valley Railroads. Only two changes
In departures were made by the former.
The train that left here nt 12:. 2 p. m. now
leaves at 12:68 and the train that left at
1:35 p. m. and leaves at 1:50. The depar
ture of the trains is made later on ac
count of a speeding up of time on the
main line. The train that heretofore ar
rived at 2:20 now gets heie at 2:40,
The changes mado by the Lehigh
Valley Compnny only affected some
stations on the main line and none on
any of the coal branches.

Mr. Meluskey's Complaint.
Stlney Meluskey, saloonkeeper nt the
corner of Lloyd and Bowers streets, says
that on Saturday night one Andrew
Macunis was ai rested for assault and
battery and at about one o'clock Sunday
morning Mr. Meluskey went to the lockup
o ball the man out. As he was leaving
the place somebody on the second floor of
the Columbia Hose house threw three
buckets of water over Mr. Meluskey and
ruined his new $35 suit of clothes. The
matter should be Investigated by the
company, In justice to Itself, and the
offenders should be punished if located.
Columbia Leads.
The Nordberg Manufacturing Com
pany, of Milwaukee, who made the big
engine for the Columbia Brewing Com
pany, sent nn expert engineer to make
some repairs. While here he wrote the
Milwaukee firm that the Columbia beer
bent Milwaukee beer "nil to pieces." Ab
Milwaukee has a world wide reputation
for fine beer, it was n pretty good card for
Shenandoah beer.
