Tho amendment was strongly attacked
by Messrs. Cannon (Ills.), Hcndorson (la.)

amount was unreasonably largo; that
somo of tho vossols wero owned by citizens
of tho United Stntos, and that $375,000 was

tho amendment, maintaining that tho
government, no matter how bad tho bar

Paris tribunal In good faith. Mr. Ding

Tho amendment carried In committee,
but was defeated in tho houso by 113 to

Finds Great Curative Qualities in a
Simple Remedy.
(From WestBeld, N. J-, Leader.)
The fact of the editor of the Leader
belntr a Dhvsiclan of the old school, en'
courages some people to ask why we
kick quacKs ana quacxers. we ao bate
charlatans the worst way; that's a fact.
But every proprietary medicine Isn't a
quack medicine. In some of them we
believe as devoutly as we do in calomel
and quinine. There, for example, is Dr.
David Kennedy's Favorite Remedy. It
has our faith. We know its value. In
the laboratory it has fully approved it
self as containing just those ingredients
which every physician knows the materia
medlca to indicate for the disorders for
which the remedv Is prescribed. In
clinical experience its further proof has
not been wanting, as we have reason to
know. We have no hesitancy in saying
that we would, prescribe the remedy In
any case wnere it is reaiiy inuicateu.
Ilr. David Kennedv's Favorito Remedy
has no rival as a blood builder and nerve
food. It has met with unparalleled
success In the treatment of all diseases
of the skin, liver, kidneys and the blood.
It restores the disordered liver to a
healthy condition, ann enectuany cures
the worst cases of habitual constipation.
It has cured cases of Bright's disease,
erysipelas, rheumatism, dyspepsia, gravel,
diabetes, bladder and urinary troubles,
where all else has failed.
It is a certain cure for all the diseases
and weaknesses peculiar to females, and
affords crent protection irom attacks that
originate in cuauge of life. Dr. Kennedy's
Favorite rlemeuy is tor sale by all dealers
in medicine at ono dollar a bottle or six
bottles for five dollars; which brings a
treatment witnin tue reaou of an.

MiNNKArous, Fob. 86. It was some
what of a snrprlso to Mr. Nyo, tho county

Hay ward ovor for cross-oxnin I nation a
short tlmo before court adjourned. He had
expected that tho examination would tako
at least the day and was hardly prepared
to go Into tho examination Ho therefore
contonted himself with going over somo
minor matters that he might bogln In
earnost this morning.
tho day wns an extremely interesting
ono, being filled with tho troublos botweon
tho wltnoss and his brothor. Adry, he
said, had proposed all tho bloody details
of the murdor. Harry explained that he
had bcon so shocked at his brother's do-
prnvlty that he had resolved to sound
many other pooplo to see if they had such
wonderful consciences. Thus it was that
ho had questioned Waterman and the
hackman, and evon L. M. Stowart, and he
aaroa the stato to put Stowart on the
stand,
Instead of having threatened to kill his
brothor with n knife, Adry, ho said, hod
threatened to kill his father, and had often
stated that ho wns so devoid of conscience
that ho could kill his father oaslly and not
bo troubled about It afterward. All through
his ovldonco It was Adry who had bcon tho
fiend, Adry who was tho slaughterer,
Adry who had a mania for killing peoplo,
Adry who was tho member of a gang,
Adry who was everything, and yet with
nil this Jjo wont on to toll how ho confided
all his buslnoss to Adry and begged hl
father to tako him back into his omploy.
Not much moro of Interest dovoloned
during tho remainder of tho direct exami
nation, and Mr. Erwln turned tho witness
over to tho stato lato In tho afternoon. Mr.
Nyo mndo Harry admit that ho had been
a gambler by habit for years In fact, slncc
ho was 17 yoars old. Then ho went ovei
his relations with Miss Glng, and had
Harry repeat his wanderings tho night of
her murder. Ho got nlong vory well ex
cept to say "my flat" twlco In places where
ho had said on direct examination that ho
went Into his mother's flat.
Mr. Erwln interrupted and oorrocted
him. In speaking of whero ho went after
leaving tho flat 'witness' Bald he went
dlrqctly up Hennepin to Laurel avenue.
Un direct examination ho said that he
went down Hennepin first, intondlng to
look for Miss Ging at her nlaco of business.
Harry showed on a map whoro he had
gono until ho reached Mr. Bartleson's
rosldonce. Tho stato's attorney kept ask
ing all sorts of questions, evidently with
a view to loylng the foundation for lm
peachmont of tho direct testimony. It Is
understood that soveral points wore mado.
D. M. Wilson, tho horso doalor, about
whom tho defense mado such a row when
it was found he was out of town, has re
turned, and will go on tho stand If wanted.
