LORD DUNRAVEN INTERVIEWED.
Tho KnglUU Nobleman Declare lilt Will
ingness to Ilntcr the Contest Itcgnrdlrs
of the America's Cup, but Must Race
Ilefnre tho Ihid nf September.
LONDON, Deo. 12. A renrescntntlvo of
tho Associated Press saw Lord Dunraven
last night nnd showed him tho cabled In
terview with Commodore Smith, of tho
rcw York lncht club. Lord Dunraven
said:
"Commodore Smith Is perfectly correct
In whnt ho says about tho Now York Yacht
club being willing to advance tho dates,
and In view of his statement I regard that
difficulty as qulto settled, It could nover
have been a real difficulty, ns, If I can
build and fit out our jjjvcht for trials hero,
then refit her for tho Atlantlo passago nud
again relit her for tho cup races, surely
the Now York ynchtpooplo would not find
difficulty in mcroly building and fitting
out a dofondlntr yacht in tlmo to raco be
fore October. This quostlon of tlmo alone
has troubled mo. I havotho greatest objec
tions to racing after tho end of September.
"Now that that trouble is over tho only
stumbling block seoms to bo tho question
of the receipt for tho cup. This matter
nover entered my mind when I decided to
challenge, and Mr. Grant, sooretary of tho
Royal Yacht squadron.wroto tho challenge
in tho samo form as that sent in 1892, and
posted it without a suspicion that it would
not bo accepted. It tho Isew xorK Yacht
club insists that this quostlon of tho re
ceipt shall bo settled before tho chaltcngo
is accepted, at least a month will tran
spire before a meeting of tho Hoynl inchf,
Bquadron can bo held and tlmo will
thus bo dallied away. Anyhow, tho
matter qulto concerns tho two clubs, and
not mo. 1 have sent Commodore. Smith's
remarks in regard to this matter to the
Royal Yacht squadron, which will deal
with them.
"I am only anxious that tho Now York
Yacht club accent tho challcngo in order
tocuablo mo o commenco the building of
tho new yacht, and that it let the receipt
matter stand over for sottlomont between
the two clubs."
Lord Dunraven concluded by saying:
"You can tell tho pooplo on tho othor side
that all I want Is to bo allowed to race. If
I win I do not oaro whether they give me
tho cup or not.
COMMUDOUK SMITH ALSO ANXIOUS.
Ills Committee May Mnlto Concessions to
Secure a Contest.
New YoltK, Deo. 13. Ex-Commodoro
James D. Smith, chairman of tho Amer
ica's cup committee, wa3 shown tho inter
view which a representative of tho Asso
ciated Press had In London with Lord
Dunraven Monday night. Mr. Smith read
tho interview very carefully, and then said:
t"ln tho first place we did not hold Dun
raven to tho ton months' notice, o wero
willing, if posslblo, to advanco tho dates.
Lord Dunraven should havo confidence
enough in tho commltteo to know that
they would grant ovorythlng that would
not jeopardize tho club.
"In any cvont tho receipt for tho cup
would havo to bo signed whether won un
der tho rules of tho now deed of gift or ac
cording to Lord Dunravcn's present chal
lenge, as legally it could not bo delivered
without a receipt. Besides, no olub has
tho power to add to or take from any of
tho conditions of tho deed of gift."
"Is tho commltteo likely to reconsider
its action?" asked the reporter.
"Tho actions of any commltteo is nover
cast Iron. But I do not think this com
mittee is likely to chango its decisions."
Howovcr, nfter n moment's thought, tho
ex-commodore odded very emphatically :
"This commltteo wants a race."

Lardepsia
would be a more appropriate name for that common
cause of suffering dyspepsia because most cases of
dyspepsia can be traced to food cooked with lard. Let
COTTOLENE take the place of lard in your kitchen
and good health will take the place of Dyspepsia.
