THIRD EDITION
A MILLION A YEAR.
This Vast Sum Annually Expended In
Advertising by one Concern.
Much has been written ami said nbout
advertisers and advertising, Imt It Is per
haps not gonerally known that, not only
is the greatest amount of advertl-dnK
ilono In America, but tlmt the largest
personal advertiser is nn Amerlonn.
Several houses, both In Kurope nnd
America, opened upwards of half n
million dollars per yonr in advertising ;
but the advertiser referred to has actually
oxponded during the pnHt yonr over a
million dollars wholly in advertising
This vast sum of money has not been
Hquandered, but has been carefully,
judiciously, scientifically expeudol, and
it has paid a profit of Ufty cents for every
dollar expended.
Here h certainly a valuable lesson lor
those who advertise or bavo advertising
lu conti-mplnttou. It shows that half
hearted attempts at wooing the Goddess
of Fortune by advertising are not profita
ble, and that even extended efforts are un
profitable unless done systematically, sci
entifically and with the greatest care nnd
judgment. It is not our purpose to give
the uame of this advertiser, who, besides
being the largest one In the world, is cer
tainly the most retiring and modest, but
wo may say, incidentally, that he is the
projector of tho pre-digested food. Pas
kola, which, however, is only asmall part
of the business transacted by the concern.
Men of this spouial genius are rare nnd
the success which attends their efforts
still rarer, but such success shows what
cm bo accomplished by well conceived
plans and superior effort.
