MoNTOOMP.nr, Ala., AtiR. 8. Nearly every county thus far reported shows o heavy loss for Kolb as compared with I his vote in 1892. Madison county, which In ISM went (or Kolb by MS, la Kiven by official returns to Oates by 1,448, a ohang of over 1,700 votes. Lawrencs, another Tennessee valley oouuty, goes tor Kolh'by only 1,250, as against 2,135 before. Lime stone goes for Kolb by 153, against 1,623 in 1802. Tallapoosa goes for Kolb by 600, against 2,449 In 1&93. In Cherokes his ma jority falls off 300. Crenshaw gave Kolb 775 majority In 1893. This year it is very close. Bibb af fords the same comparison. Sumter goes for Ostes by over 1,500, a Democratic gain of over 1,000, and Macon for Oates by sou, a Democratic train of over 1,600. Henry, Oates' home county, went for Kolb In 1892 by over 1,500, but this year gives Oates over 500. In Barbour county the official Democratic majority has been Increased 1.320. Oates' majority will be olose to 80.000. The returns Indicate a aaf Democratic majority In the legislature, even without Jefferson's delegation of six, though pros pects are favorable that It has gone Demo cratic. Bihminoham, Ala., Aug. 8. Captain Kolb furnished the following statement over his signature last night: "I have deferred making any statement to the public as to the result of the elec tion until the total returns had been re ceived. Up to this nour sufficient re turns have been received to show that have carried forty out of fifty-one white counties, and that I have been elected, with the entire state ticket, by a majority of not less than 18.000. This majority I claim after giving to the opposition every white county which they have carried, without reference to fraudulent modes in the nature of intimidation and bulldoilng in the absence of inspectors or fixers for onr side. Any citizen of Alabama of ordinary In telllgence who will taka the trouble to examine the figures as reported by the Associated Press and claimed by the op position can at once see that It will be a physical impossibility for the tickot headed by Colonel Oates to be elected ex cept by claiming a majority of over 5,000 from seven black belt counties having a white voting population not exceeding 12.000. 'The frauds of this year are mora no torious and shameful than those of 1893. For the purpose of deceiving the publii they have, to some extent, been shifted The returns as reported from Lowndes county indicate frauds exceeding anything ever before known in the history of tuii state. In Montgomery, Bullock and Barbour the frauds are hardly less aggravated The opposition claim Madison county by a majority ot 1,443. Our strength in Mad lson county tnls year is much more strongly developed than in 1892, when we carried the oouuty by about 400 majority. "A conference of the candidates of our state ticket, as well as the members our committee, has been called to meet in this city tomorrow, and at that confer ence a line of policy will be determined on, and the people ot this state will be given an opportunity, definitely and quickly, to determine whether or not the law shall be 'master of us all' and our government be maintained in purity ac cording to the will 01 the people." At Kolb s stateheadqunrters here some of his leaders say that Kolb will be seated by force of arms if necessary. THE GREAT SUCCESS.
