containing, a number of coal digging ma
chines and located near the Morrladale
shaft of It. U. Wlgtou'n initio, was set on
fire, and nothing but the, early discovery
of the flames prevented a heavy loss and
tbe flooding of the extensive mine. The
striking miners have passed resolutions,
strongly condemning the deed, and-offer
to furnish men. to guard, the company's
property In order to prevent a possible re
currence Of the offense during the strike.
At HugheB mine, near Osceola, 1,000 men
made their appearance just as the mine
was about to be opened for the day and
held a brief conference with the owner,
after which it was announced that the
mine would shut down until after the
conference at Cleveland.
Nesro Miners Intlmldnted.
Birmingham, Ala., May 10. After re
ceiving three formal notices to quit work,
which they refused to obey, tho negro
miners at MIIUIhIc, Tuscaloosa county,
went out and joined the strikers. Tbe
causo of their yielding to the pressure was
an anonymous notice posted about tho
mine Tuesday night, which rend: "You
have boen given three notices to quit work.
II you do not obey tomorrow morning you
will not live to disobey longer." The no
tice was decked with skull and cross bones,
and purported to be signed in blood with
a drawn dagger.
Maryland's Bllne Strikers.
Cumdeuland, Md., May 10. About 1,000
miners assembled at Knapp's meadows
lyesterday afternoon. After electing dele
gats to the Cleveland miners' meeting a
vote was taken and showed an overwhelm
ing majority In favor of a strike. At
Frostburg about 2,000 men are out and
1,200 still at, work. The majority of the
men seem opposed to suspension. In any
event, It is not believed that suspension,
if generally adopted, enn last long.
Ulnars Snub Their Employer.
ST. Louis, May 10. General Manager J.
D, Crabh, of the Madison Coal company.
made an attempt to hold a conference
with his strkipg miners at Edwardsvllle,
Ills., but met with a failure, nono of the
men attending, though they had been
given notice. Tomorrow will be payday,
and Mr. Crabb hopes then to be more suc
cessful in his efforto to reach a settlement
with his men.
To Enforce a Uniform Rate.
Pittsburo, May 10. President, John
Mollrlde and Secretary-Treasurer Patrick
MoBryde, of the United Aline Workers'
association, have assured the operators of
this district that if a uniform rate Is es
tablished at the Cleveland convention it
will be maintained and enforced by the
miners throughout the district. This has
always been a question of dispute.

scene of the mn,lng -trouble at. George's
Creek are to the effect that only three
mines are in operation. Trouble is ex

dents have telegraphed for instructions in

Cam Mat Court Bouse, N. J., May 10.
The jury in the case of Richard Pierce
(colored) was only out twenty-flve min
utes, and returned a verdict of gnilty of
murder in the first degres for killing his
wife Sarah on Feb. 10. Judge Reed sen
tenced Pierce to be hanged on Friday,
June 29. This will be tbe first hanging In
the history of the county.
A Chinas. Klopemeut.
San Francisco. May 10. Mrs. All
Chong, wife of a local Chinese merchant,
decamped for China on the steamer
Oceanic, taking M0.000 of her husband's
money. The robery was discovered by Ah
Chong shortly after (he steamer had sailed.
It is believed that some Chinese lotharlo
accompanied the woman.

When the railroad officials heard of tho
seizure they ordered nil trains discon
tinued and had an onirlue ditched at Olney.
The Industrials, however succeeded In
jrettlnK around this by laying extra tracks.
Then another locomotlvu wns ditched near
Haswell, but this was also overcome by
the train thieves. Tho water tank nt Ord
way was emptied, aud the Industrials were
obliged to obtain a supply from a well,
carrying It In their dinner palls and coffee
cups.
A special train bearlnR Ilenlly P. Wax
goner and others of the Missouri Pacific
came to Topeka from Atchison over the
Santa Fe Inst evening. It has since re
mained here awaiting the arrival of Mar
shal Neely, who Is on his way from Fort
Ecott on a special train. It Is the plan,
when he arrives, to gather a force of dep
uty marshals and start west over the Mis
souri Pacific to intercept the Common
wealers. Mr. Wnggoner has made application to
Governor levelling for his influence In
leathering together an effective force of
deputy marshals, aud has received the re
ply that the governor would take the
matter under advisement. A writ of re
plevin has been sued out by the Missouri
Pacific for tho stolen train, aud it will be
demanded of Marshal Neely that he ex
ecutes the writ. Warrants have been or
will be sworn out also lu each county in
the state through which tho Commonweal-
ers pass, charging them with bringing
stolen property Into the state. On these
warrants it is desired that the Coxeyltes
be arrested.
AtSallna, Kan., word was received by
tho local employes of the Missouri Paclflo
from the officials at Atchison to prepare
500 warrants, and saying that a posso of
600 deputies from Leavenworth was en
route to Topeka to place the army under
arrest. Information just received says
that the nrmy has reached Covington,
near the western state line. Their coal
and water supply was exhausted and they
had gone into camp. The local authori
ties there state they will not interfere
with the train, but will permit It to pro
ceed cast.
Kellya Army Afrnln Kn Route.
DE8 MoiKKS, la.. May 10. The Kelly
army fleet got under way at noon yester
day, ond bid good-by to Des Molues from
the packing house, two miles south of the
city. Most of the boats in the fleet were
rigged with oars, or sailing gear and sails
were Improvised from some blankets.
Kelly boats were soon strung along the
river five miles, and made slow progress.
One boat with ten army men and a num
ber of Des Moines women and children
capsized and all narrowly escaped drown
ing, Fnlly 1!,000 people straggled along
the banks watching ths flotilla. Women
and children from the city were In nearly
every boat at tne start, taking (.snort
pleasure ride.

of Galvln's Industrial army deserted the
main body at McKecsport and went up

Baltimore and Ohio detectives, who had
been expecting the move, captured the
men and brought them to this city. When
brought before the police judge they were
each sentenced to twenty days In jail.
Fitcirerald's Army at Tranton.
Trenton, X. J., May 10. Fitzgerald's
army, or Boston Industrial delegation as
they call themselves, arrived here yester
day, but attracted practically no atten
tion. They are quartered at Itelster's
Hall, aud left this morning for Burling
ton.

LA Porte, Ind., May 10. General Ran
dall and staff were released from custody
yesterday afternoon, and discharged on
Blgning an agreement to at once break
camp and get out of the county aa fast as
possible.

Bordektown. N. J., May 10. The tor
pedo boat dishing, which left Washing'
ton Tuesday morning, passed into the
Delaware and Itaritau canal for New York
yesterday afternoon with a crew of eight
