ing n lengthy conference with a Dnrllug
ton committee the governor instructed
General Hlchboitrg to prepare everything
to bring tho troops back here tomorrow.
The governor bus agrcrd that If tho men
in Darlington who have caused trouble
will stand their trial he will let tho civil
law take its course nil the way through.
Concerning tho resolution introduced in
congress in regard to his stoppago of tele
grams the governor said: "Ohl I don't
faro to notice every crank who introduces
resolution."
There was a murder at Darlington yes
terday growing out of the late disorder.
It took place at thu Cleveland hotel, whrru
Dr. W. II. Payne, one of the guests, shot
and instantly killed Henry Green, second
cook of tho hotel. Tho cause of the trag
edy, It appears, was that the negro went
before General RIchbuurg, commander-in-chief
of tho state volunteers, and made
allidavlt that he had seen Dr. Payne com
ing out of the dispensary. When Dr.
Payne spoke to Green about it hot words
were passed on both sides, Green giving
Dr. Payne the lie. The pistol was placed
nt the negro's breast, the shirt being
burned by tho powder.

followed troop K to the scene of the trou
ble between cattlemen and Indians in the
Cheyenne and Arapahoe country. Tho
battle, say couriers, still continues. When
troop IJ reached tho scene a hot skirmish
wns in progress. Tho soldiers took n hand.
nnd one white man and four braves were
added to the list of seven dead. Tho latest
rumor is thnt the Indians are gathering in
large numbers. The possibility of a brief
but bloody wnr is being discussed. It is
claimed thnt if the Cheyennes and Arspn
hoes, who number 300 at this ngency.were
to go on th warpath they would bo joined
by the Apaches, Comanches and Kiowns,
who number several thousand.

brighter for finding Kddie Hrotherton,
who mysteriously disappeared from here
about four months affo. After the recent
arrest of the Italian organ grimier Bur
gess Fenntr and several prominent citi
zens hired a detective, of the Pinkerton
force, who became noted here for his work
in apprehending "Heel Nosed Mike."
Every (dew has been run out, and the
work Is said to have hud telling results.
Tho letter received after tho child's disap
pearance is supposed to have Iteeuu decoy,
coming from the kiduapers.

election riot are still alive, but reason
able hopes of their recovery are not cn
turtaiued. Pate, the deputy constable
who precipitated the riot while trying to
arrest one of tho Pryor family, said he be
lieved that Mike Calluhnn, tho only one
that was killed outright, is the man that
shot liiiu. Pato Is one of those mortally
wouudoit. Hurry Fowler is another who
will die, for it is thought uothlug short of
a miracle can save him.

day wero twenty Huns and Poles.who said

however, compelled them to remain In
camp. Last night the Commonwealers
were again prevented from marching out

TERRIBLE EXPLOSION AT OIL CITY
A Fntlter and Three Children Killed.
Tito others Fatally Injured.
Oil Citt, l'a., April 8. A terrible ex
plosion occurred last evening by which
four persons were Instantly killed and
two fatally Injured. The dend nre:
Joseph Kaullls, a German lnborer, aged
fiO; Mary Kaullls, aged 6 years; Joe Kaul
lls, nged 4; Alary lasmvr, aged 7. Mrs.
Kaullls and her babe, 6 months old, wero
seriously hurt and are cow lying in a dy
ing condition at the hospital.
Thu cause of the explosion Is a mystery.
When It occurred Kaullls was on tho back
porch of his residence, and the children
were playing in the yard. Ills wife nnd
youngest child were Inside the home.
There wns no gas burned in the houee,
cither for fuel or lights. The bodies of all
were terribly mangled, and the entire rear
portion of the house was blown Into kin
dling wood. The only plausible theory
advanced for the disaster Is thnt Kaullls
found n glycerins enn and had brought it
home witli him, and it was accidentally
exploded. Kaullls was thrifty and indus
trious, nnd highly respected.
Maryland'! Iron Hall.
Daltihohh, April 5. The nnswer of
Charles J. Wiener and Joseph C. France,
the Maryland receivers of tho Orderof the
Iron Hall, who have about 1100,000 in
their hands, to the petition of James F.
Failey, of Indianapolis, Ind., to have tho
funds of the order in Maryland turned
over to him, was filed In court hero today.
It denies that the order of the Indiana
court is operative outside of thnt state,
aud claims that it should not be respected
here; that the. money of tho order here be
longs to Mnrylnnd members, nnd It will
be to their benefit to have It distributed
uuder the direction of a Maryland court.
Da Gama Thrrntened wltu Yellow Fever.
BtJKNOs Aykes, April 6. Yellow fever
on board the Mendello, one of the Portu
guese warships which brought to this
port from Itio Janeiro Admiral da Gama
and other Brazilian insurgents, is increas
ing iu violence, and many of the crew aro
now prostrated with the disease. It Is
feared that Admiral da Gama, who has
been greatly weakened by his wounds,
would fall uu easy victim to the disease
should he be attacked. A vessel has been
dispatched from Portugal to convey the
refugees to Portuguese territory.

passed the following bills: Mnklng trout
fishing legal between April 1 and July 31;
requiring denttsts to procure a license
under a penalty of $300 fine; abolishing
public road boards in Essex and Hudson
counties and putting the control of such
boards in the board of freeholders; provid
ing that the inspector of factories aud hit
assistants shall hare the inspection of
mines.

Wilkebiiauiik, Pa., April fi. The body
of tho twelfth victim iu the Guylord
mine, Dan V. Morgan, was discovered
late last night. Ho, like his companions,
was caught under the fall and Instantly
killed. Morgan was n widower, 52 years
of itge. Only one more body now remains
lu the mine, that of Thomas Piotou, the
foreman.
Seven Killed 111 n Fire,
Frankfout-on-the-Main, Aprils. Firo
destroyed the upper part of a house, for
merly the liritannla hotel, near tho Cen
tral station. During the panic which fol
lowed a number of the Inmates jumped
from tho windows. Three of them were
killed instantly and several severely In
jured. Four of the injured have sluco
died.
