of May 17, 1884, three masked men entered
the house of Jacob Horst, an aged farmer

Horst and his wife and carried away tl50

value. Jacob Kbersole, David Kbcrsole
and William Williams were an seed, but
while awaiting trial Jacob Fix i- ile, with
a number of others, escapi . from the
Lahanon jail andwere not arrested. His con
federates were tried, convicted aud served
four yoars In the Eastern penitentiary.
Kbersole returned to his old haunts on
Saturday, and was arrested.
Mrs. linker's Vuneral.
Franklin Park, N. J., March 5. The
remains of murdered Mrs. Moore llaker
aud her little girl, Gertrude, were laid at
rest yesterday. Services were conducted
in the Dutch Reformed church by Itev.
Mr. lllauvalt. The roads were almost im
paawible, fully' S0 conveyances being
drawn up in the viointty of tho church.
Mr. Baker sat throughout the Impressive
service with a oompoeure almost rigid. In
the gallery, within a good view of the
coffin, were Hen Baker's mother and

ing a gang of Chlueee opium smugglers
who have bueu smuggling the drug
through Canada, for consumption in
Superior aud Duluth, also other north

by the police, and it is expected that sev
eral Chinamen will be arrested and held
to the United States court. It is esti
mated that nearly (30,000 worth of opium
