John Clark, of Lost Cieek, died at his
home yesterday morning of hemorrhages
Clark, It may be remembered, Is the young
man who saved his life, two weeks ago, by
Jumping from an engine at the plane, just
as It went over an embankment. The de
ceased was about 25 years of age and leaves a
widow. Ills mother, who had been too sick
to see her son, died a few hours before him.
She was over seventy yours of age and will
be buried with her son in St. Joseph's cem
etery, Girardville, on Monday.
Colliery employes worked about twenty-
four hours tliis week.

given the company to repair tho road, but
tho Council didn't tear up the roid. I don't
kiow why they didn't carry out the rosolu
tiuu. I was not in favor of tearing up tho
track. I voted against it once booauso I
wanted to give tho company more time to fix
up tho other part of the track, not ou tho
question of right of way. I did a little more
business at my hotel on tho night of
August 21st on account of tho trans
fer of passengers caused by tho tearing
up of the track. That was the only incroase.
The 21st was not fixed for tho toarlng up be
cause on that day tho company would do its
greatest business on becauso tho Lavcllo Fair
opened on that day. I didn't go near tho
toaring up of tho track. I llvo about thirty
yards from ono end of the tearing up and I
don't know whether there was ono or more
I shifts on tho work. I didn't seo any drunken
men there that night, or any under tho in
fluenco of liquor. I baw some shots. I saw
Mr. Briggs shoot. I got to the placo of shoot
ing to adviso a little. Seeing a man with a
gun I went to adviso him to go in tho oar,
that tho gun might go oif and hurt some ono,
The man said if any body had any respect
for his lifo to keep away from tho car.

memory. About a down, or porhaps more
shots were fired. I said the man was very
snotty for telling poople to keep away from
the oar. This man stood on thegrouud. When
Briggs caiao out just beforo the shot he said,
"Horo wo aro ," and then shot
I was about twenty feet from Briggs when ho
fired. I said before the Coroner's jury Briggs
said, "Hero I am, you ," and ho
tired. I can't say my memory was any uefr
ter than now when before the Coronor's jury
aud I don't know that it is any better now,
Tho shots fired were like a bunch of shooting
crackers, right after each other. I oan't say
that I saw Amour grab a gun from anybody,
I did swear before the Coroner Amour took
gun from u man In about the centre of tho
oar: mv recollection is refreshed now. I saw
Amour go In the ear and saw him throw his
arms up and shove the gun out of the way.
Amour never mentioned anything about

Gillespie Is a. miner living 7G or a hundred
yards from me. Ha is sober and Industrie
they aro reinstated everywhere else, but at
Delouo, is not apparent to a casual observer.
