SICKNESS IS SIN
Rev. father A. Ouellet Speaks for
the Public's
The question of protection against contag
ious and infectious diseases lias always been
of the most vital Importance.
Modern medicine lays stress not so much on
disinfectants and deodorizers as on fortifying
tho body against diseaw germs.
We all encounter every day disease germs
enough to kill nsj but while the body is ro
bust, we throw them off; it's only when the
system is suflloiently weakened and depressed
that these dwidly germs gain lodgment aud
the power of doing harm.
Rev. A. Ouoliet, an excollent likeness or
whom is printed above, is ono of the most
popular and greatly rospectod priests in tho
lower provinces. His parish is lu How Uruus
wick. Liko thousands of others he tried tho groat
modern remedy first prescribed by Prof.
Phelps, of Dartmouth, the remedy that gives
proper nourishment to ill fed nerves; that
procures the sleep that makes braiu and
nerv play their parts calmly and harmoni
ously; that drives tho poison germs of deop
seated disease from tho blood ; that gives touo
to the system, and consequent buoyancy of
spirit and happiness. Ho writes;

During III.
At its last meeting the Borough Council
discussed moro matters of direct interest to
the borough than have received its attention
at any one meeting for soino time past. The
oomplaints about bad streets and defective
sanitary arrangements burst upon them as a
flood. They were almost too numerous to
be followed by the committees who muBt
look after them. It is quite appareut that
the people want a cloau and woll regulated
town this year, and it is also evident that
Council proposes giving it to them, for all tho
complaints made were promptly acted upon.
The School Board will meet to elect teachers
for the 1883 4 term next Wednesday evening,
Tho election will also include tho selection of
a principal to succeed Prof. William h.
Eurbart, resigned.
It is hoped President BeKeridgo will name
tho members of the Board of Health at tho
next meeting of Council so that thoy may get
down to work. Their services are badly need
ed. Many of tho residents of this town havo
not been aware of the fact that they havo
beon usiug adulteratod milk for considerable
time! Tho use of such milk, if prolonged,
may be the causo of producing au epidemic
of sickness, and for this reason the
Board of Health will be aked to
take some steps to punish the parties who are
responsible for putting it on sale. Several par
ties having complained that the milk they
have purchased from farmers coming over
from the Catawissa Valley has turned out to
be a worst kind of adulterated mixture, not
withstanding the farmers warranted it as tho
very next grade to cream. Another thing the
Board will be expeoted to turn itsattention to
is the sale of decaying fruit. This Is one of
the greatest evils of the summer season and as
soon as they are appointed the health officers
should give it their attention.
There is one a-lvui.t.i.-u the Chinese have
over the white ni-iu, uud that is that they
can keep their muuths shut. What "John" is
going to do or not going to do you never can

fever and rheumatic aont from Jan. 5 till the
middle of June, hence my system was fearful
ly run down. I was very thin and so feeble
that for several weeks I could not walk along
without heln. I then began to tako Paine's
celery compound according to prescription
and to-day I am as fleshy and strong as I was
10 years ago.
"I do not say that I am radically cured as
yet of my gout, but the attacks are much less
frequent, in fact, I have not been one single
day prevented from attending to my usual
work since that time. I therefore tako pleas-
ure jn certifying to the wonderful ctllcnoy of
that marvelous medicine.
"As a blood purlfler it has no eqnal, and its
beneficial influence on the digestive system
cannot lie questioned. In view of tho fuclB 1

Paine's celery cotniouid a fair trial in the

Paine's oelery compound is unquestionably

We have this season, for the first time,
added a -Millinery Department, and have spared
neither trouble nor expense to make it a suc
cess. The result exceeds our most sanguine
expectations. This department will be under
the same management and conducted on the
same principles that have always character ir.cd
our eni ire business. We shall keep everything
in trimmed and untrimmed hats, novelties of
every description. Having secured a trimmer
noted for her artistic and skillful work, we are
enabled to suit all tastes. We invite a careful
inspection of our entire store. All welcome.
