the settlement may be, It Is now practically
certain that tho Heading company will lie
lelioved from the embarrassing alternative
of meeting the note when It matures noxt
weok or else surrender all claim to tho col
laterals. It was reported In financial circles yes
terday that tho Reading will pay the Inter
est due July 1 upon tho general mortgage
bonds, amounting to nbout$UUU,UUU, out It
is dlfllcult to seo how this can be accom
pllshed unless an Issue of receivers' cer
tificates shall have been authorized In the
meantime. Another hearing upon the ap
plication for authority to Issuo these cer
tificates Is being held to-day.

Rending and its employes has been lost

no reply had as yet been made to tho griev

Railroad. It was decided that no wltuosses
would be summoned, but to dopend upon
the testimony taken at the coroner's in

Topeka, Kas June 28. A terrific
storm passed over Logan county Monday
evening. A few miles south of O.ikley it
assumed the proportions ot n tornado,
blowing down several farm-houses, stables
and outbuildings. It curried a school
house fifty rods nnd then dashed it to the
ground, breaking it into kindling wood,
and scattering the debris a long distance.
