when they arrive by fulsu swearing they

tentiary to the Ilawuiian islands, succeed
ing John L. Stevens, resigned. Mr. Blount's

ity of annexing the Hawaiian islands to
the United States to the position of mints
tor was announced Tuesday night and since
the announcement was made it has come
to be understood that the change was de
cided on at the cabinet meeting Tuesday,
A report from Mr. Blount, mailed in
Honolulu during the last week in April,
came to Secretaty Gresham, and was taken
by him to the cabinet meeting. Owing to
tho confidential character of the report its

It Creates Excitement.
Washington, Mny 11. The unearthing
of Dension frauds by which the government
has been defrauded out of over $100,000
has created quite a bubble of excitement
here,- and tho indications ara at present
that upon investigation the frauds win in
crease instead of decrease when the affair
that has just been brought to light shall
have been looked up. Attorney Drewry,
of Norfolk, Va., who is now under nrrest
there for the part he has played in swind
ling Uncle Sam, refuses to talk in regard
to tho matter.
When tho frauds were first discovered it
was thought that about 00 per cent, of the
pensions procured by Drewry had been
gotten through the pension oltice through
false certificates, but it now transpires upon
further investigation that fully 03 per
cent, of the pension business done by him
was fraudulent, and It may foot up stui
more than this when the returns ure all lu.
A thorough investigation of the whole af
fair is to be made at onoe.
