of the proceeds thereof.
Senator Flinn tried to.have the rules sus
pended to get in a motion to discharge the
committee on vice and immorality from
further consideration of the amendment to
the Sunday law permitting the publication
and sale of Sundaynewspapors. lie stated
that the committee stands four to four on
the bill, and that tlds tie would probably
prevent its belug reported at all. He also
explained that the bill was reported yester
day by mistake, and that under the circum
stances there should be no objection to his
motion, but the senate wouldn't have it
and tbe bill remains in committee.
Senator Kline, chairman of tbe printing
committee, offered a concurrent resolution,
which was adopted, Instructing the chief
clerks of the senate and bouse to arrange
for postage for the Legislative Kecord, the
postmaster general having finally decided
that it is uot a newspaper aud cannot go
under newspaper rates.
Senator Meredith reported as committed
the bill to amend the act creating the
banking department, fixing the qualifica
tions of the superuiteudiit and deputy
superintendent, providing for the appoint
ment of a deputy superintendent, examin
ers, olerks and stenographers, regulating
their compensation, specifying the con
ditions and amounts of bonds to be given
by the superintendent, the deputy and ex
aminers, and defining their powers and
duties.
The calendar of senate bills on second
reading was cleared and the nominations
of the governor for notaries were submit

show no uneasiness about the geld
situation. They say the treasury is in good
shape and no further action will be taken
by Secretary Carlisle unless aa emergency
not now expected should ris. Domoeratln
leaders generally are convinced that the
outflow of gold is chiefly the result of
combination to force an issue of bonds; and
while Mr. Carlisle will not express liny
opinion about it, he is said to sympathize
with this.
The secretary has received some very
seusatlonal disatches ucglng' an issue of
bonds, but pays no attention to them. A
privat- i elegrain received from New York
to wbicli tho secretary's attention was
called, blates that four, millions ot gold
will ho shipped to-morrow and three
millions early next wwek. The secretory
