brought by tho Hekald to recover on
soveral hills contracted for advertising tho
special election held last June to incrcaso tho
borough debt. When tho bills were piesented
to Council they were referred to tho com
mittee on room and stationery. After a
delay of several weeks two members of tho
committee, A. 1J. Lamb and T. H. Van
Duscn, roportcd in favor of only paying a
small part of tho bill. Tho third member of
tho committee, Mr. Amour, refused to concur
in tho report. After that timo tho IIkrald
heard nothing of tho intentions of Council,
hence tho bringing of tho suit. Tho claims
amount to upwards of $100 with iuterost
from the 1 1th of last Juno.

G. A. It. opera house nt Mt. Oarniel Monday
night In "Mnscott" to tho largest and most
fashionable audience over seen in that enter
prising town. Manager Gould deserves great
credit, not only in securing such a beautiful
temple of amusement, but also In securing nn
attraction of tho calibre for an opening.
Tho company is not only largo in number,
but also in quantity. In tho comedy role
Eddie Smith and Ralph Do Mossa aro without
doubt tho greatost fun makers iu the county.

Mllau; Hamilton Tetloy, and other well

A Wicked Opossum.
At an early hour this morning a large
opossum got into a chicken coop owned by
Mrs. Itoberts, of North Jardln street, and
attacked tho fowl. Michael Harmon, a
hostler employed in a neighboring stable,
heard tho noiso and hastened to tho coop.
He killed tho opposum and two chickens
that had been badly mutilated.
