Q HO ROE W. KENNEDY HAMUKL A. L03CII. SAMUEL S. COOPER. IT WILL- GO ON. The Philadelphia North American says the election in Pennsylvania will go on just as if there had not been any bunglimr of the Uallot law. We are willing to behove that tho Harris ourg administration has done as well as it was able to do, and that is not much to boast of. .,A poorspirited people might be cheated out of suf ferage, but the people of Pennsylvania are not of that sort, and they will vote m Novomber about as uaaul. If the people of Pennsylvania choose to get in a aud turn over the affairs of hq.r great state to a set of small poli dciano they must take the consequen ces of such self-indulgence. But tho election will go on. If for no other reason than because the authorities caunot afford to let it stop. The Telegraph says it will be a sad day for the responsible parties if the elec tion falls. We should say that it would be some such sort or a day as would seem frigid even in latitude S3 north, it would be a very cold day, indeed. But the election will go on. If there are doubts about getting tho ballots printed, all that Is necessary is to offer the job to any of our big printing establishments and the doubt will disappear. It will require as many forms aB there are comities; but that does not matter except to persons who know nothing about prluting The real printers are simply smiling over the perturbations of people who know nothing about the facilities in a modern nrlutlnir office. There are not six counties In Pennsylvania that can not set up and print all the ballots needed within forty-eight hours after the copy is put in hand. It is not im possible that some of tho puppy poll ticlansat Hnrrisburg and elsewhero have thought that they could carry Pennsylvania for Cleveland by small trick, but It is not probable that Governor Pattisou and his colleagues have engaged in that species of felony, There has been bungling somewhere, probably in the law at first, and at oflloial headquarters afterward, but it will take a bigger bungle than even that to steal Pennsylvania. .IGNORANCE. As aa example of tho rubbish so often published in metropolitan Jour uals r u roal mining topics we quote the ' 'owing paragraph from an article by iv f G. Fred Wright, in a reoent nuiJ ' i r of the New York Nallon. "A. tow days' systematic driving through the anthracite region of East ern Pennsylvania gives one a vivid and oppressive sense of the reckless waste with which tho present genera' tlou Is using up the reserve stores of coal that have so long awaited the advent of man lu this desolate region TUo river 1b black with heaps of dust uuslghtly heaps of coal waste vie with tho mountains themselves In magni tude nil over the urea, while propar atloiiH are in progress on every hand to Increase the output of the mines already opened, and to open others whence the greatest product can be be obtained, with least expense. If anything can be more desolate than a deserted coal village, It is a coal vil lage thut Is noj deserted, where every thing is black with dirt, where the children of tender years seem to revel lu it, and where children of larger growth join their mothers lu spending the long hours of the day In picking over the waste heaps and carrying the saved lumps of coal to the nearest merchant to barter for the necessaries of life. Much as one Is shocked with the labor of women and children in connection with the coal mines of Belgium, he will be even more so In souio places in Pennsylvania. The philosophical problems forced upon one's attention by the waste of coal in Eastern Pennsylvania are staggering whether ho try to reconcilo it With the bunevolence of tho Creator, or whether he attempts to prescribe a proper course of human conduct with respect toil." If the Professor will only write one or two more articles on coal topics, and till further confirm the density of his ignorance of the subject, he will prove himself eligible to a position on the editorial force of the New York World. MORSE WILL SEEK LEGAL REDRESS- Stntnments ltsiir.lliic Quarreli, etc., In. dlgliHUtly DunUrl by ailss II m m 11 llor den, Attorney Jennings aud Mr. Murse--J'nHTUut Um Prosecution la Wesliounil, Fall River, Mass., Oct. 11. The Borden murder cato is ngain the sole toplo of conversation. The story published yesterday has influenced feeling in favor of the girl, and it is felt that the govern ment case has been Injured. Attorney Jennings, Miss Emmit and Mr. Morse em phatically deny nil statements regarding quarrels, etc. Mr. Morse is intensely angry and will seek legal redress. Bridget Sullivan und Detectlvo Seaver spent some time together yesterday look ing Into the minor details. The appraisal of the Borden estate has been completed, but no figures will be given out until tho report is submitted to the Probate Court. District-Attorney Knowlton Is In New Bedford. Regarding the publication, he expressed the opinion that the case would not bo hurt thereby. Mr. Jennings made the following statement to n reporter: "The matter, published in a Boston paper relating to tho murders of Andrew j. Borden and his wife is a tissue of lies. "I have ondeavorod to And out about Mr. and Mrs. Fred Chaso at tho number indicated 182 Fourth street, Fall River. "There is not only no such number, but not any within 40 of it. There is no such name as George F. Sissou in tho direct ory, nor can I And any person who knows anybody by that name. Hie kernel of tho whole malicious story deals with a condition which is ab solutely disproved by thing found In tho cellar by the prosecution und admitted to be what Miss Lizzie claimed they were. "aubsequent events have conlirmedther claim." Morse says that tho whole story is abso lutely fnlso, not a word of truth in it. The Reagan story has already been denied by Hiss Emma and Miss Lizzie, und was admitted . by Mrs. Reagan to bo f also to ut least six persons. A member of tho police force says that the names used in the story indicated nre iicticious, but thu matter is substantially true. The following are two of the stories re ferred to; Air. and ilrs. Frederick Ubase, ol I'all River, nnd Mrs. Abiuail Manchester, their daughter, were friends of the elder Borden, and visited them on the evening previous to the murder. They overheard, it is stated, a quarrel between Lizzie and hor father. All heard Mr. Borden say: "You can inako your own choice and do it to-uight. Either let us know what his namo is or take the door on Saturday, mid when you go Ashing, fish for some other place to live, as 1 will never listen to you again. I will know the name of tho man who cot you into trouble." Lizzie is said to have renlied: "If I marry this mau will you be satisfied that everything will be kept from the outside world!" Then the visitors were an nounced nnd conversed with Mr. and Mrs. Borden on the subject of che funeral. Mr. Borden said: "1 would rather see lier dead than have it come out." Mr. George J. Sissou of Full River is said to have hoard Lizzie say to Bridget Sullivan, the hired girl: "Why don't you say how much money you want to keep quiet! Bridget s answer was: "I don t know what you mean, hut you are not tho girl 1 took you to be." Mr. George bisson, H is said, will uwear that less thun a mouth before the murder Mr. Borden told him he had made a will giving Emma and Lizzie $20,000 each, which was more than he would havo ah lowed them but for his wife's interces sion. Bridget Sullivan will, it is claimed, corroborate the story of the quarrel of Mr. Borden and Lizzie; also that sho heard the night before the murders Morse aud Lizzie talking about a will: also that on tho afternoon of tho day of the murder, Uzzlo whispered to her, "Keep your tongue still, and don't talk. to tbo otliccrs and you can have all the aionoyyou want."
