K. Sickles, the hero of Gettyaburg,
and a Democratic resident of New

Democratic veteran soldiers In that
Btate will not support Cleveland, that
all tho old soldiers who were against
him in 1888 are against hint now, and
that Mr. Hill's friends will not follow

The first section of the "declaration
of principles" adopted by the Demo
cratic party at Chicago reafllrms Its
ulleglunce "to tbe principles of the
party as formulated by Jeileraon and
exemplified by the long and illustrious
line of his successors in Democratic
leadership." But 'Jeileraon was a
protectionist, and ro was Madison.

MR. BRUMM TALKS.
Hon. Charles N. Brumm, the Re-
publican candidate for Congress, is
making au open and courageous light
und is not making his attack on Mr.

btauda upon the public platform and
makes ills uttacks In a clear, dlstlnot
tone. Ills address in Bobbin's opera

lilts the boast of the Democrats, that
Mr, Reilly is a power in the Cougroa-
sional caucuses, fquarely between the
eyes when he asks, "If Mr. Kellly can
do so much In the Democratic cau
cuses, why can't lto exert some of his
energies In the Interest of the working
masses of this country ?
A strong point 1b also made In con
nection with the boasted position Mr.
Itellly holds In tho Democratic Con
gress. Ho is the chairman of the com
mittee on the Pacific Itallroad pystem.
These railroads owe the government
millions upon millions ot dollars that
they have failed to pay as interests on
their bonded indebtedness and there
has not been a bill submitted to the
House touching this very important
and vital question. Tho only thing
the committee has done has been the
adoption ol a resolution providing for
the printing of somo public docu
ments. The charges made by Mr.
Brumm that Mr. llcilly twice evaded
tfiigagemeuts to speak at aiitl convict
'abor meetings are also strong points.
All these matters are new to most of
the people Interested and they will
not fall to havo eflect.
