yesterday afternoon.
Air. Hilborl's story
was that in 1689 Mrs
Seltzer procured an
fif insurance policy on
his life without hie
knowledge or consent. Hilbert did not
know nf the policy, he says, until rocontly,
when it leaked out in a quarrel. Ililbort
then consulted bis lawyer, M. M. Burke.
Esq., and suit was brought against Mrs.
Seltzr and Insurance Agent Ileckman for
fraud and conspiracy. Mrs. Seltzer set up
a defense to the effrct that Mrs. Ililbort
consented to the insutanoe in order to
secure a grocery bill. Heckman, the
agent, claimed that he oalled upon Mr
Illlbert and had him make hia mark on
the application (or insurance. Tail 11 i I
bert denied and Mrs. Ililbort denied the
claim made by Mrs. Seltzer. All parlies
met in Mr. Burke's office yesterday and
agreed to settle. Mrs. Seltzer surrendered
the insurance policy and the agent gave
Mr. Hilbert ten dollarsand agreed to pay
the costs and counsel fees.

OBITUARY.
Denth or Mrs, Linton, an Old and Well
ICnoivu ltealdent.
Mrs. Margaret Linton died last night at
her home in Millers company houses on
Bowers street. She bad been a sufferer of
catarrh of th) stomach and inflammation
of the lungs and had been confined to her
bed for three wueks. The funeral will take
place at 2 p m on Monday. Mrs. Linton
was GO years f age and was the relict of
Robert Linton, who was killed by a fall of
coal in the Kehinoor colliery nineteen
yean ago. The deceased was born in
Glasgow, Scotland, and became a resident
of this town in 1871. She left a large circle
of trlend-t who deeply mourn her death.
On "Wednesday last Nellie, the eltven
year.old daughter of Evan J. Davit, inside
foreman of lleechwood colliery, Minors
ville, died after a short illness. Mr. Davis
was formerly a resident of this town, whore
he is favorably known. Four others of
Mr. Davis' children nro seriously sick.

Police Davis and his assistants or their
promptness in squelching the hoodlum
element in the vicinity of the theatre. On
evenings when shows have been In the
theatre the hoodlums have taken possession
of the street am! made themselves Intoler
able, but last night the services of the
police had an etf.et which the residents cf
the vicinity feel bound to reeognis.

Many people have been witbbo'ding
their pledges of support to see what the
Post would do and now that the organiza
tion has acted and put itself on record it is
hoped that the oitiasne and other town
societies will roll up their sleeves and go
into the work with a will.
At its meeting last night the Poet pledged
itself for 100 and appointed the following
committno to act In conjunction with oom
mitteos that will be solected from tho other
societies and the citiaens: David Morgan,
S. A. Beddall, William Maloy, Joseph
Daddow and H. C. Boyer.
It is not the intention of tho Post to
assume all responsibility for the project, or
to monopolize credit for what may be ac
iWraoUshcd.. .It-has simply darted what It
hopes to make a popular movement, some
thing to which it hopoj all the poople and
all the societies of town will lend their aid
and hfclp make a brillUnt success,
Now that tho start has been made let all
bands move towards an official organiza
tion. The committee appointed by the Post
will meet on Monday evening, next, at
7:30 o'clock, inS. A. Beddsll's office, to
prejare plans. It is proposed to have every
society In tho town represented on the
comm ttee, ns well as representative to be
appointed by tho citizens. A meeting of
the general committee will be oalled in a
few days.
Tho membsrs of the Post were very
enthusiastic over the project. The members
condemned the Republican's suggestion in
regard to the project in unmistakable
terms.

patch on the east side of the White street
school building means. It is easily ex
plained At its last meeting the School
Board decided to have the building pointed
and painted. A committee advertised fur
proposals for the work and P. J. Cardan

this week, but was stopped, as tome mem
bers of U'O board have raited the point

School Board.

Personal Taxes.
The Cummisiioners instructed the Ux
collectors of the several districts to rcce.v
personal taxes from any person who may
feel disposed to pay taxes. This move on
the part of the Commissioners will enabl"
all who havo nut paid a personal tax with e
two years to do so, thereby entitling them
to vote. The collectors are authorized te
receive the amounts due, viz., 66 ents
from miners and machanics, 45 cents from
laborers, and 23 cents fjrom. the aged anL
