don Hillhouso. a former resident of this
town. Tho deceased died on tho Cth insl.
from injuries sustained by a fall of coal in
a mine at Adger, near Birmingham. Ho
was tho son of JameB Ilillhouse, Sr., inside
foreman of tho colliory at which the acci
dent happened and a former resident of

Tho deoeased was born at Galston,
Avroshiro. Scotland, on August 18. 1808.
flo was a member of tho Masonic, ICnigbts I
of Pythias and Odd Fellow fratornilies,
having become a Mason when ho attained
his majority. Ho had hold important
ofllcos in tho Odd fellows, and at tho time
of his death was Deputy Grand Chancellor
of tho Knights of Pythias, as well as a
member of tbo grand lodgo of said order.

grounds,noar Ashland, ystc rday, was very
satisfactory. Tbe Beading road ran spec
ial trains to the grounds from all points
and a large number of people paid for ad
mission.
The Valley View Cornet Band furnished
music during the day and llice & Uupo's
combination if trained dog and ponif
gave a very clever exhibition, This enter
tainment was cut short on account of a
want of time yotterdity, but will bo given
in its entirity during tho balanco of the
season,
Tboro were tbreo races yeetorday. The
first was a trotting race for tbe 2.27 class for
a purse of $260, divided. "Dot," a bay
gelding owned by A. B. Cutnming, won in
2.82). "Fannie 0.," a Taylorsville gray
mare, was secouu, and "Jell Wilkes"
Muncy horse, was third.
