ANOTHER DEMAND FOR MONEY To bo Made by tho Joint Com mittee Tho Lawyers MuBt Have Thoir Fees Food for Reflection. AW VERS, like doc tors and editors, must occasionally have a dosiro to enjoy lift) as other species of man kind, hut, of courso that desire cannot be appeased without the help of monoy. So it . i3 with ex-Judge Ryon and John A. Nash, Eiqa , tho Potlsville lawyers who have been engaged to repre sent the borough in the water works liti Rations. On Thursday last Messrs. Ryan and Nash came to town and were in consulta tion for some tlmo with mombeis of the joint commilteo in tho office of J. II Pomeroy, Efq. The committee was care ful not to lei the doing9 of the mooting roach tho public car and nothing was said about it at the I! . rough Council meeting in the ovening. But tho secret has leaked out. Messrs. Ryon and Nash have no objection to rep resenting the borough In court, but thoy cannot live and enjoy llfo on tho theories regarding the habitation of Mars, or tho vacant hopes' of- tho joint committee. They want cash, or at least borough orders bearing the names of the presidont and secretary of Council. It is understood that Council was to havo been asked for an appropriation Thursday night, but, instead, Council was asked to adjourn to Monday night "to take action on the walor caso." It is now known the "action" will be a request for a joint com mittee appropriation to meet the demands of tho lawyers. V As n Councilman passed a certain place last night a bystander shouted, "What is the matter with thostono crusher?" Another bystander answered, "It's broko." "Yhat is the matter with the Borough Council?" was next asked. "If tho joint commilt-o keeps on the way it is going the Council will be broke, too." Tho Councilman glared at the speakers, but held his peaco and walked on. A correspondent writes that it is disro spectful to writo of an elderly man as "old gentleman." Well, it may be; but wo prefer tho expression to "old man," nnd oven in speaking nf Gladstone would bo tempted to change bis popular title to "grand old 'gontlo'man."
