report that the doctors were causing chol
era patients to be buried nllve, the lower
classes of the city of Saratoff rose la re
volt agnlnst the authorities and the doc
tors on the 10th inst.
The excited populace wrecked and plun
dered the police station, cholera hospitals
and the residences of tho Chief of Police
and physicians.
Several patients were dragged out of
one hospital to save them, aa the Ignorant
mon thought, from being burled alive.
The medical assistants were Attacked, and
two of them were killed.
The rioters threatened to take full poS'
session of the city, and would undoubted
ly have done so had it not been for the
opportune arrival of the troops who had
been summoned.
The mob resisted the soldiers, and the
latter were ordered to flro upon thorn. A
volley was poured into the mob, killing
three of them ana woundinK lour others,
The rioters then dispersed.

afternoon by the trains of the Northern
Railroad of New Jersey getting stuck,

Mrs. Ellen W. Smith, one of the two
women who were so brutally ill-treated
by the three Now Britain roughs, Al
brecht, Dillon and Saunders at Kensing

Her death was undoubtedly hastened by

from this province to the United States
has been so great that publlo attention
has been called to it. The principal
cause of the exodus is the difficulty ex
perienced by the Canadians finding a
tnnrkot for their products. So enormous

progress to devise, if possible, some plan
to check It.

Robertson is dead at his home in this
city. Hewasover80 years old, was born
In Charleston, S. 0., was graduated from
Yale in the class of 1829 and was a mem

1841 and Secretary of State from 1840 to

receiver for the New England Terminal
Company, and L. S. Catlin, of this city,
