The Borough Council of Mahanoy City
held a meeting this morning and requosted
the water company tohavo all tho logs,
stumps and other debris dopositod on tho
Btroets by tho flood removed. Tho com
pany said it was not responsible for tho ox
pense of such work, as tho bursting of tho
dam had occurred under circumstances
over which the company had no control.
Tho borough at onco put its own forco on
tho work and it is understood, will charge
tho water company with tho expense.
General Manager B. 0. Luther and other
officials of the P. & B. Company arrivod
hero at an early hour this morning and put
several gangs of navvies at work ropairing
tracks, and it was announced at noon that
both roads would be ready for operations
to-night.

The Course Changed,
The Shenandoah Heat and Powor Com
pany has changed its plans for laying its
steam beating pipes. Instead of running
out Plum alloy from Lloyd to Centro
stroets, tho pipes will bo laid along Lloyd
to Whito and thonco to Centre. This
change became nocessary on account of
tho swampy condition of tho ground on
Plum alley.

Mr. and Mrs. Loron Trcscott aro koopers
of tho Gov. Lighthouse at Sand Beach,
Mich,, and aro blessed with a daughter, four
years old. Last April she was taken down

m., Altoona5,40, Johnstown 0 53, arriving
at Pittsburg 0.16 a. m Cincinnati 0.16
p. m and St. Louis 7.00 a. ra. the second
morning aftor leaving Now York. It will
be completely equipped with Pullman
sleeping cars to Pittsburg, St. Louis and
Memphis, via Cincinnati, and coacbos to
Pittsburg. A dining car will also bo
attached at Altoona, from which all
necessary meals will be servod. ' Tho
Southwestern Express is the fastest and best
equipped train to the Southwestern territory
and will prove ft great conyoniunco to
