Marie rrcscott.
Miss Marie Prescott, noted as ono of tho
moat beautiful and talented women on the
stage, will appear in Shonandoah this
ovoning and will present ber own
dramatization of II. Kidcr Haggard's
famous novol, "Cleopatra." This work
may bo fairly acknowledged as the bost
novol Haggard has ever writton, with
beautiful idyls scattered through Its
pages from tbo pen of Andrew Lang.
The novel is fresh, brilliant, beautiful.
The play differs from Sardou's version of
tho story and, indeed, from that of any
othor writer, in that Anthony is almost
entirely obliterated, or, at any rate, is
used only for tho purpose of bringing
out In strong relief tho great love for
Cleopatra by Harmachis, a royal Egyptian
brought up as a priest and secretly crowned
as Pharaoah of Upper and Lower Nile.
Those ovents bring him from tho obscurity
of his birth to tbo splendor of Cleopatra's
court, whero ho becomes ber high priest
and her devoted lovor, and in turn as
devotodly loved by Chaimion, Cleopatra's
hand-maiden, whose affection, it is needless
to say, Harmachis, doos not return. As
Cleopatra makoa no roturn of her high
priest's affection, it will be seen that liar
machis is between two flros. Tho play
ends with tho death of the principal
personages.

by oloctno lights, tho power being fur
nishod by the trolley wire of tho oloctric
railway. Tho lights aro exceptionally
brilliant. They are only eixteen-candle
power, but aro fully equal to the lights of
double that power furnished by tho in
candescent light company of town.
