be excellent authority that P. J. Ferguson
will, on .Monday, assumo his position as
Assistant Claim Agent for all lines under
the Philadelphia & Reading Railroad sys
tem with hoadquartors in town for the
present, and that T. J. Davies, present
local agont will, at tho samo time, take
charge of all tho Philadelphia & Reading
and Lehigh Valley passenger and freight
business in town, with headquarters at the
Lehigh Valloy depot.
. No official announcement has yet been
made concerning tho working forces of tho
depot.

Odd Fellows' Day.
On Tuesday next the 73rd anniversary of
the Odd Fellows Association of Eastern
Pennsylvania will be celebrated at Hazlo
ton by tho holding of a monster parade.
Should the weather prove favorablo it is
oxpocted that between G.000 and 7,000
persons will bo present and' witnoss tho
grand demonstration. Tho local lodges
hayo about perfected nil arrangomonts to
bo presont, with the expectation of a full
representation from tho threo lodges. They
will be accompanied with music.
Heading Trains to Hun.
Commencing Monday, 25th Inst., all
passenger trains on the Reading Railroad's
Shenandoah branch will depart from and
arrivo at tho station of tho Lehigh Valley
division, N. E. corner Centre and Plum
streots. The old station at Contro and
Union streets will bo abandoned so far as
passengor business is concerned.

Nothing new has developed in connec
tion with the electric railway. Tho cars
continue to run into town on the 45-minuto
schedule and no steps have been taken to
stop them. It is understood that in a day
or two the law and 6troot committee of the
Borough Council, tho citizens' committee
and representatives of tho railway com
pany will got togcthor nnd havo a confer
ence. An opinion prevailing is that an ar
rangement will bo mado in a fow days, by
which the paving criers will be satisfied
and tho railway company will receive por-
mnsion to go ahead with tho construction
of tho road without further molestation.
The running time of tho electric cars will
remain ns it is for tho presont. Tho cast
Ings for tho crossing at LoBt Creek have not
arrived yet. As soon as they roach here
and can be laid tho schedule will bo
changed to provide for moro frequent
trips.'
Tho road is doing an oxcollent builness
to-day. As a rulo, the morning business of
the line is not large, but this morning all
the cars wore woll filled.
Tho company this week placed ordors for

tion with tho affair is worthy of mention.
This morning the steamship "Conemaugh,"
which took its namo from the scene of tho
dreadful disastor in tho western part of this
state throe years ago, sailed from Philadel
phia with a cargo of provisions lor tho
Russian victims and to-night tho pooplo of
Shenandoah will placo themselves on re
cord in tho work of humanity. The date
for the concort was not fixed with any
reference to tho "Conomaugh's" departure,
but was seloctod by mere chance.
Tho programme to-night will be thickly
studded with rare musical gems, Tho
famous Orant Cornet Band, under tho
leadership of Prof. Zoitz, will render sov
eral of tho finest selections' ever composed;
tho Shenandoah Choral Union will render
tho grand choruses "Tho Summer," and
"Tho Brook," by Gwont; the Hughes and
Price malo party will sing "Longing" and
"The Young Musician;" Harry Mollet
will givo one of his excellent recitations;
Misses Edith Morgan and Ruth Williams
will sing a duett; and the whole will bo
concluded with a grand chorus by all, in
cluding the audience.
A BRAKEMAN SHOT.
Charles Koons Jlet With a Serious Ac
cident at Mt. Cnrmcl.
Charlos Koons, a bruxeman employed on
tho Lehigh Valley freight tram that runs
between Mauch Chunk and Mt. Carmol,
was shot and seriously wounded at tho
latter place this morning while on duty.
As tho train was running at tho rate of
about twonty miles an hour and Koons
stood on the top of ono of the cars ho was
shot in the right eye by one of three young
men who stood near the track. It was a
gun shot wound. Koons retained his
presence of mind and saved himself from
falling from tho train. Koons received
temporary medical attendance and was
sent to his home in Mauch Chunk. The
young men disappeared and an alarm was
at onco sent out for their arrest. Up to a
late hour this afternoon they had not been
captured. Two of the parties aro named
Kosslor. It is believed that tho shooting
was purely accidental.

Councilman Archio B. Lamb, of Shen
andoah, claims to havo boon offered a
"block of stock" by tho Electrio Railway
Company for his vote and influence. If
this is true Mr. Lamb should expose tho
bribor. By withholding tho name ho
shields tho wrong door and thus becomes a
prty to tho wrong. The Evening Hjcr
ald is right in demanding that Mr. Lamb
state who it was that mado tho oflr. Ash
