Wits Laura White, daughter of Judge
White of Oooperstown, N. Y. 11a was
rejected and the lady married W. E
Loavitt and went to live at Flushing, L.'

residence In Sioux Falls, S. D., and se
cured n divorce from hor ' husbaud on
the ground of desertion and non-snp-port.
A year before this she had been on o
visit to Cooperstown, and on hor return
home found that her husband had lockod
the door against her. Sho returned to
Cooperatotvn, and Anally Beourcd hor di
vorce ar, Sioux Falls.
DoMauriac had' been married, but his
ylfe had died. When his former lore
was set free he once more appeared tn her
suitor, and thistimo was accepted.
The marrlaite took place yesterday in
the presence of a few guests.
DeMauriac is a woalthy banker and
stock broker of this city and is a mem
ber of the Stock Exchange and a promi
nent club man.

faction of employes in tho Reading com
bine is now said to have reached such
serious proportions that a big strike is
threatened.
It is understood that the engineers
and other employes of the road are much
dissatisiled with the way things have
been manaced since the Lehigh Valley,
the Jersey Central and the Beading
roads wore placed under one manage
ment. The chiof cause of dUsatisfnc
-Hon teems to be that many trains have
beon discontinued, thus throwing meil
cut of work, and that in discharging
these men, union men have been selected
as the victims.
The Brotherhood of Engineers, it la
laid, are the principal sufferers by the
combine, and it is this body that is
cushion tho matter to the front In an
effort to brine the company to terms.
Members of this organisation say that
the entire system will be tied up unless
the matter is amicably settled soon.
It is said that President JIcLeod has
announced his determination to rid the
system of ull union men and that he
Would welcome a fight at this lluio.

that started nbout noon yesterday near
John Burks, in Booth Bay, worked into
the woods and burned over 000 to 800
acres, including the dwelling of Willard
Merry and the school house in district S.
It .swept south to Hagget's ice pond,
when, a change of wipd drove the llamas
down th.e east side of Pleasant Cove, cov
ering the land of eleven different owners.
The losi is estimated at from $3,000 to
$10,000.

Cockerumn last night went to the home
of his divorced wife. Nancy, near this
city, flted through the window, instantly
killing William T. Davis, her hired
hand. Ue .then pursued Mrs. Cockermun
to the road and nhot her dead, and re
loaded his gun and blew hU own head
loff. Mrs. Cockerman secured a divorce
from her husband last year on a showing
of 10 years of terrible cruelty.
