zens' League of New Jersey, urging all
law-abiding citizens to meet in Trenton

passage of the race track hills which are
now pendlns. Arrangements havo been
made for tho running of excursion trains
from all parts of tho State, ana the in
dications now point to a general invasion
of tho State Capital 'by at least two
thousand pocplo. Delegations are ex-
pectau from l'atcrson, hllznbeth, New
ark, Jersey Clly, Trenton, and Camden.
Threatened With Annihilation.
Mystic, Iowa, Feb. 15. This prosper
ous mining town is threateneu with an
nihilation by the action of the Iowa
Central Railway In raisinjr rates on coal
to a point where it cannot be shipped at
a profit. Heretofore 1,200 car loads a
month have been shipped to Mnson City,
St. Puul and Minneapolis, but since the
new rate went into effect the mines have
shut down and over 500 men are out ot
work. The matter will be laid before the
Stale Itailroad Commission.

Atlantic Highlands, N. J., Feb. 15. Wi
Coe. an engineer on one of the steam
dredgers here, had a, dispute with a man
named Peterson, resulting in tho latter
drawing a knife and cutting Coe's face
open from the temple down about four
inches. Although weak from the loss of
blood Con knocked Peterson down and
gave him a terrible thrashing.

Easton, Pa., Feb. 15. Rev. Charles
Elliott, D. D., L.L. D., born in Scotland,
Mnrch 15, 1815, graduated nt Lafayette
Jn 1840, and for the past decado instructor
of Hebrew at that institution, Is dead of
the grip. His home is in Chtcaga, his
duties requiring his presence at Lafay
ette- but three months in the year.
