Pattison has at last found n political
rocket that will not go off nt his touch.
His extra session, from n political stand
point, has been a total fizzle. It was a
bold move in politics, the calling of the
senate together in the inidat of an ex
citing: campaign. Big chancos were
taken by tho two adepts who composo
the Pnttison cabinet, each of whom has
filled the role of chairman of the Demo
cratic state committee, for they were
playing for big stakes.
The hopo that Republicans would
waver at tho desperato audacity of their
action, and give them an advantage, to
be carried into the Btate campaign,
spurred them on. They now see their
mistake. The Republican majority in
the senate met the issue squarely and
manfully.

Lieutenant Governor Watros Bounded
the keynote when he declared that the
Republican party would insist upon a
prompt nnd thorough investigation of
every chargo that might be brought
against state officials. His declaration
