work of Kerra and its far-reaching In

fifty feet above the high water mark,
in a commanding and conspicuous
place. Pedestal and figure are both of
granite, tho former being appropriate
ly inscribed. Father Scrra lauded near
tlio site of tho statue on Juno 3, 1770,
and founded the missions of San Diego,
San Carlos, Sun Antonio do Padua, San

1782. He died in 1781 at tho San Car
