THE RE-DIVISION.
The report of the viewers on the rc
dlvislon of the town bus been Med
with the Court tit Pottsvlllo und con
firmed. Of course considerable dis
satisfaction exists not because the
town has been re divided, as that was
an absolute necessity, but because of
the boundary Hues selected for the
now wards. All the maps submitted
to the viewers were Ignored and they
evidently fixed upon their report In a
spirit of compromise with a view to
making the result as nearly satisfac
tory to all as they possibly could. It
is to this alone that the parties inter
ested have to look for consolation .
The maps submitted to the viewers
by the petitioners for the re-dlvlslon
was, notwithstanding tbo claims of
the opposition, based upon Hues as
equitable as any that would possibly
1)3 drawn; yet the viewers saw fit to
ignore it and adopt a plau of their
own. This, of course, they had a per
fect right to do and if the petitioner!;
are wise they will submit gracefully to
the decision.
Thcso who opposed the re-dlvlslon
are, of course, in a "kicking" mood.
They, in their own minds, are the
ouly people who can discriminate be
tween right and wrong and It would be
unnatural for them not to kick. The
map they had prepared was marked
out so ingeniously that had the
viewers adopted it three of the wards
would need another re-dlvlslon very
soon. The map was a cold-blooded,
daring soueme to nave the town po
litically divided to make six Demo
cratic wards against three for the Re
publicans. The failure of this schemo
serves as a panacea for the disappoint
ment eustalned by the petitioners.
"to the report of the viewers
the scheme was killed, as . the new
lines seem to give the Citizens' party
some show for life.
