Audience In Ferguson's
Theatre Last Night.
Tho concert given in Ferguson's theatre
last night was a splendid financial and ar
tistic success. James Sauvago, of Now
York, was tho star of tho evening and he
Bustainod the titlo admirably. His first ap
pearance was a signal for a storm of ap
nlauso and as he concluded singing "The
Noblo Boy of Truth" tboro was such an
outburst of enthusiasm that an encoro was
necessary. His rendition of "Gia La
Luna," by Rossini, and the song, "Laugh
ing," by Trahorno, were equally well re
ceived. Mr. Sauvago'B voice has aromark'
able range and is of a very pleasing quality,
His son, Tonza Sauvago, gave two piano
forte solos with oscollent t-ccess. His
"Recollections of Wales," with several
variations, was particularly pleasing. The
audienco stamped his work with their ap
proval by encoring both his selections,
Ho is certainly an excellent pianist and too
much praise cannot bo given him. Ltew
Herbert, of Scranton, shared the honors of
tho oyoning. His song "Tho Skipper,
captivated the audionco and his success was
repeated in tho rendition of "Aria of
Osmin." Mr. Horbert is ono of tho finest
bassos evor beard in tho town. Don Cwm
bwrla, of Mt. Oarroel. pleased the audience
vory much with his rendition of "My Vil
lage Fair" and in the duett "Betty Wynne'
with Mr. Herbert he made a hit. Tho
Gwenl Glee Society, under his direction
was also very successful. Tho glees "May
Day" and "Whip-poor-will bong" were
enthusiastically received. Misses Jennet
Bovan and Edith Morgan woro warmly ap
plauded for their singing. To omit men-
tbnoftho Schoppo orchestra would bo
dropping oue of the gems of tho concert.
Tho overture and intermission selection
wore rendered in tho most effective manner
and the audienco was not slow in appre
ciating tho excellent work. In conclusion
it may bo said that tho concert was ono of
the beat musical treats over given in tho
wn. Edward Boeso, of Centralia, was
di-ector of tbo concort and ho acquitted
himself of tho duty with much credit. To
properly conduct an entertainmont of tho
kind given last night is not an easy task,
but Mr. lloeso seemed to bo perfectly at
home In tho work.
