Let the people l<?ok tq this office at the

ted but such an one who has intelligence to
know his duty, honesty and firmness to per

CONSISTENCY. —We notice that a num
ber of newspapers in this State have icfu
se,l to raise the names of Fillmore Bn d
Donelson. What is the object of this de
cided refusal ? Have they repudiated
Americanism and fallen into the anas of
<eward-Grceleyisui? Among our ejtobnng
cs there is onu-which bears us its motto:
•To preserve our Nationality, we must ho
more American." And yet the editor of
that pspr, it* a labored editorial, gives, bis
reasons for refusing to accept the nomina
• ion. Is this effort, on his pnrt, a desire
to be more American? In our humble opin
ion, instead of becoming more American, it
L but the stepping stone to desertion of
American principles, and the acceptance of
the idea that niggers shall rule America,
instead of the ruling sentiment of the
American party, that 'Americans shall rule
America.'
For ourself wo liave taken for our guide
tho American Platform of principles—and
the nominees of the American party, and
are resolved to stand or full with them.
