Old Forty-nine is dyinpr,
And the chill Winter's breeze
Is heard mournfully sighing
'.Mid the tall forest trees,
The fair groves late exulting
In their lovliest green,
Stand now gloomy iiud luouruful
As they witness the scene.
Tl e sweet songsters which lately
We all hoard with delight,
From the frrwns of rude winter
Have now taken their Sight.
Yes, the old year departing
For ever is gone,
And hale Fifty eomcs hastening
Full rapidly on.
Once again my kind Patrons
I before you appear,
And most heartily wish you
A long, I aj'py New Year !
As we look l ack on the past,
It Lett n s us to raise
From cur hearts, truly grateful,

Tcr ur nation is lisppy,
And prosperous, and free,

Education beams on us

Cut health and abundance

Sweetly smiles on cur land,

In our own native village

There's but little to sadden,

Our cars often are greeted
Ry the " church goiug bell"
As aloud it re-echoes
Over mountain and dell.
We can see sweetly blending,
Works of Nature and Art,
And what aid to each other
They so kindly impart.
