Probably the best ordinance ever

A lady once invited a few friends in
to dinner. The hostess insisted that
one of the guests take another plate of
pork and beans. “Why,” he said, “I’ve
had two already, but it’s really such
nicely cooked pork and beans I be-
lieve I will take another plate.” “Ma’s
won !” exclaimed the little boy at his
side: “Ma’s won! She said she'd bet
a dollar you’d make a hog of yourself
if you came.”
Mrs. 8. L. Bowen, of Wayne, W. Va.,
writes: “I was a sufferer from kidney
disease, so that at times I could not get

stand straight. I took Foley’s Kidney
Remedy. One dollar bottle and part of
the second cured me entirely.” Foley’s
Kidney Remedy works where others
are a total failure. Elk Lick Phar-

Last week Luther Anderson, J. H.
Menhorn and Matthew Fair went to
Dover, Delaware, with a view to buy-
ing land in that vicinity and engaging
in farming. They returned well pleas-
ed with that portion of the country,
ened kidneys and allay troubles arising’
and Mr. Anderson informs us that he
will locate there just as soon as he can
dispose of his property/here. We have
not learned the intentions of Messrs.
Menhorn and Fair.
In mentioning John W. Ringler’s
loss of $10.00 by theft, in our issue of
last week, there was an error in the
item. When the theft was discovered,
the pocketbook was not found on the
floor, as stated, but out of its place in a
drawer, and the theft discovered by
the drawer being partly pulled out.
We had been misinformed in some of
the details of the theft, but in the main
our statement was correct.

used Foley’s Orino Laxative for chronic
constipation, and it has proven without
a doubt to be a thorough practical
remedy for this trouble, and it is with
pleasure I offer my conscientious refer-

ler, proprietor. 7-1
L. A. Maust, the genial and accom-
modating B. & O. station agent of Gar-
rett, was in town last Saturday, ac-
companied by his nephew, Arthur
Maust. Both gentlemen recently re-
covered from typhoid fever. They
would have made good angels, to be
sure, but their many friends are all
glad that they were not called hence.
They are both needed here in this
lower world, where men of their stamp
are never too abundant.
Our highly esteemed friend Chas. H.
Bill, of Grantsville, Md., was a business
visitor in Salisbury, Monday. He
came over to confer with some of our
carpenters, relative to erecting several
houses in Grantsville in the near
future. He is enthusiastic for the ex-
tension of the P. & M. trolley line to
Frostburg, Md., via Grantsville, and
thinks the people out that way would
give free right of way and help to build
the road besides. We earnestly hope
it may all come to pass.
Piles are easily and gnickly checked
with Dr. Shoop’s Magic Ointment. To
prove it I will mail a small trial box as
a convincing test. Simply address Dr.
Shoop, Racine, Wis. I surely would
not send it free unless I was certain
that Dr. Shoop’s Magic Ointment
would stand the test. Remember it is
made expressly and alone for swollen,
painful, bleeding or itching piles, either
external or internal. . Large jar 50c.

The Annual Convention of the Lue
theran Sunday School Association of
Somerset County is in session in this
city, this week. The town is flooded
with delegates and visitors, and our
people are trying to make it pleasant
for them. Space forbids the mention
of all the familiar faces the convention
has brought here, but suffice it to say
that they are all welcome, and we
trust that when they leave they will
have only the most pleasant of feel-
ings towards our pretty mountain
town.
Hon. Fra A. Milliron, of Venango
county, is visiting friends and acquaint-
ances in Berlin, this week. Mr. Mill-
iron was elected to the State Legisla-
ture, two years ago, and last April was
renominated on a straight local option
fight, by 53 votes. Mr. Milliron is a
pronounced advocate of local option,
and his vote was so recorded at the
last session. The other nominee in
Venango county, this year, is opposod
to local option, and defeated W. F.
Whitman, his local option opponent, by
one vote.—Berlin Gleaner.
Mrs. S. Joyce, Claremont, N. H.,
writes: “About a year ago I bought
two bottles of Foley’s Kidney Remedy.
It cured me of a severe case of kidney
trouble of several years standing. It
certainly is a grand, good medicine,
and I heartily recommend it.” Elk
Lick Pharmacy, E. H. Miller, proprie-

Last Sunday our worthy and efficient
State Banking Commissioner, Hon. J
A. Berkey, was a guest at the Valley
House. He came over .from Somerset
for a conference with some of the of-
ficials of the P. & M. Street Railway
Company. In the afternoon Mr. Berk-
ey, in company with President C. H.
Jennings, General Manager H. H.
Maust and Treasurer J. L. Barchus, of-
ficers of the P. & M., took a carriage
ride to Sand Patch, via the Kendall
summer mansion in Greenville town-
ship, where the party called on some of
the Kendall brothers.
Nature has provided the stomach
with certain natural fluids known as
the digestive juices, and it is through
these juices that the food we eat is
acted upon in such a way as to produce
the rich, red blood that flows through
the veins of our body and thereby
makes us strong, healthy and robust,
and it is the weakening of these diges-
tive juices that destroys health. It is
our owa fault if we destroy our own
health, and yet it is so easy for any one
to put the stomach out of order. When
you need to take something take it
promptly, but take something you know
is reliable—something like Kodol For
Dyspepsia and Indigestion. Xodol is
pleasant to take, it is reliable and is
guaranteed to give relief. It is sold by
E. H. Miller. 7-1
