If a cough once gets into your system
it acts on every muscle and fibre of the
body and makes you ache all over. It
especially affects the intestines and
makes you constipated, so in order to
get rid of a cold thoroughly and with-
out delay you should not take anything
that will tend to constipate. Kennedy’s
Laxative Cough Syrup acts upon the
bowels and thereby drives the cold out
of the system. It contains no opiates
—it is pleasant to take and is highly rec-
ommended for children. Sold by E.

Curtin Chaney, who had been confin-
ed to his house for several months. on
account of a severe case of typhoid
fever, is again able to be out. Some
time before he ventured out, “Curt”
says they weighed him, and his weight,
including a big double blanket, was 72
pounds. That is quite a light weight
for a man 6 feet 2!4 inches tall, but it
shows what typhoid fever is capable of
doing.
It is very important and in fact it is
absolutely necessary to health that we
give relief to the stomach promptly at
the first signs of trouble—which are
belching of gas, nausea. sour stomach,
headache, irritability and nervousness.
These are warnings that the stomach
has been mistreated ; it is doing too
much work and it is demanding help
from you. Take something once in a
while; especially after meals; some-
thing like KODOL For Dyspepsia and
Indigestion. It will enable your stom-
ach to do its work properly. Sold by

THE STAR is once more very#late in
making its weekly twinkle, owing to
sickness in the editor’s family, a large
amount of job printing, and the fact
that the editor was practically knocked

during the week. If it hadn’t been for
our friend “Saxe” Staub, of the Meyers-
_ dale Republican, coming up and giving
us a lift the first of the week, the paper
wouldn’t be out yet.

Our friend Hanson Brown, of Farm:
ington, Fayette county, Pa., arrived in
town last Friday evening for a visit of
a few days with friends. He called at
Tur Star office, Saturday morning, and |
added a few jewels to his crown in the
next world by paying a year’s subscrip-
tion to the “Twinkler.” Hanson looks
younger the more he grows older, and
his lady friends over about Farming-
ton ought to keep a close watch on
him, for we rather suspect that he is
considerably interested in one of Som-
erset county’s charming young ladies.
But as he is a good fellow, we will not
give him away.
To check a cold quickly, get from
your druggist some little Candy Cold
Tablets called Preventics. Druggists
everywhere are now dispensing Pre-
ventics, for they are not only safe, but
decidedly certain and prompt. Pre-
venties contain no Quinine, no laxative,
nothing harsh nor sickening. Taken at
the “sneeze stage” Preventics will pre-
vent Pneumonia, Bronchitis, La Grippe,
etc. Hence the name, Preventics.
Good for feverish children. 48 Preven-
tics 25 cents. Trial Boxes 5 cts. Sold

Mr. Samuel Glotfelty, of York, Pa.,
was visiting friends in Salisbury, last
week. He was on his way to Ohio,
where he and ether persons interested
in some land in Cuba were scheduled
to have a meeting. The visiting gen-
tleman, in company with M, J. Glot-
felty and L. C.-Boyer, made THE STAR
a pleasant visit, last Saturday after-
noon There are many Glotfeltys in
York county, many of whom were met
by M. J. Glotfelty and wife, last sum-
mer, while in attendance at the Glot-
felty reunion held in that county. They
are related to the Glotfeltys here, whose
ancestors came here from Eastern
Pennsylvania.
A tickling cough. from any cough, is
quickly stopped by Dr. Shooop’s Cough
Care. And itis so thoroughly harm-
less and safe, that Dr. Shoop tells
mothers everywhere to give it without
hesitation, even to very young babes.
The wholesome green leaves and ten-
der stems of a lung-healing mountain-
ous shrub, furnish the curative prop-
erties to Dr. Shoop’s Cough Cure. It
calms the cough, and heals the sore and
sensitive bronchial membranes. No
opium, no chloroform, nothing harsh
used to injure or suppress. Simply a
resinous plant extract, that helps to
heal aching lungs. The Spaniards call
this shrub which the Doctor uses, “The
Sacred Herb.” Demand Dr. Shoop’s.
Toke no other. Sold by All Dealers.
With this number THE Star closes
its 13th volume. The past year has
been far the most prosperous onein the
paper’s career. We trust that the
year which will close onr next volume
will be even more prosperous for the
paper than the one preceding it. All
Salisbury’s business men should be
constant advertisers in Tue Star's
columns. Otherwise they cannot blame
the publisher if he decides to allow
Meyersdale merchants to fill his col-
umns with advertisements that will
pull much Salisbury trade to Meyers-
dale. Spasmodic advertising brings
better results than no advertising, but
the constant, wide-awake advertiser is
the one who gradually increases his
business and holds it. If your business
will not stand judicious and constant
advertising, it is a sure sign that it
should be advertised for sale, and the
buying public is not slow in putting just
that kind of an estimate on it.
To the Republican Voters of Salis-
bury Borough.
It may not be generally known
among the Republicans of Salisbury
that this borough is without a Republi-
can committeeman since Daniel Liven-
good has moved to Munhall, Pa. Such
is the case, nevertheless, and if the Re-
publicans want to hold a caucus and
nominate candidates to be voted for at
the February election,~they will have
to have a committeeman appointed by
the Republican County. Chairman, as
noone but a regularly elected or ap-
pointed committeeman has the lawful
authority to hold a political caucus or
nomination.
So far as the editor of this paper is
concerned, he is not in the least inter-
ested in borough politics, this year, and
under no circumstances could he be
prevailed upon to accept the commit-
téemanship, which he has heen urged
to seek by some of the Republicans of
this borough. Therefore, if there are
any Republicans in this borough who
are interested in borough politics, this
year, they should at once confer with
Bert F. Landis, Republican County
Chairman, Somerset, Pa., and have him
appoint some suitable Republican to
act as committeeman. Mr. Landis is
not a factionist, and whoever the Re-
publicans of this borough want for
committeeman, they can have for the
asking, so far as Mr. Landis is concern-
ed. We don’t care who is appointed,
as factional lines have about faded
away, but a committeeman must be ap-
pointed if a caucus is to be held, -and
without a caucus no ticket can be nom-
inated.
The borough being strongly Repub-
lican, at least a goodly majority of the
borough offices should be filled by Re-
publicans. The elections should be a
contest between the Republican and
Democratic parties, for in that way the
best officers are invaria selected,
and usually from both parties. Under
the fusion program, however, the very
poorest material is frequently put in
office, and the welfare of our borough
and schools has suffered greatly in re-
