Mabel Beachy Gets Verdict for
$7,625 as Result of Suit Against
B. & 0.
Miss Mabel Beachy, daughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Josiah. Beachy. of
Somerset, Pa., secured a verdicc against
the B. & O. Railroad Company, last
Friday, for, $7,625. = Miss Beachy was
one of the victims of the Kauffman’s
Run wreck on the Somerset & Cambria
branch of the B. & O., which occurred
Aug. 3d,1905. Miss Beachy was badly
injured and brought suit for damages
in the sum of $25,000.
Another case lost by the B. & O. be-
fore the special civil court now in ses-
sion, was that of Catherine Tressler, of
Northampton township, who had asked
$3,000 for the death of her husband,
William Tressler. On November 10,
1905, Tressler was struck by a train, it
was alleged, while driving across the
B. & O, tracks at Philson station, be-
tween Sand Patch and Glencoe. There
was a dispute as to whether the re-
quired signal had been given as the
train approached the crossing. The
jury returned a verdict of $1,500 for the
plaintiff. A motion for a new trial has
been filed.

Quite a Difference.

the meaning of prepared and ready?”
“Well, there’s many a person who
may be prepared to die, but I never
saw one who was ready.”

We have:used Chamberlain’s: Cough

and it has always proved to be a reli-

claim for it. It is especially good for

A GOOD LINIMENT,
When you need a good reliable lini-
ment try Chamberlain’s Pain Balm. It
has no superior for sprains and swel-
lings. A piece of flannel slightly
dampened with Pain Balm is superior
to a plaster for lame back or pains in
the side or chest. It also relieves
rheumatic pains and makes sleep and
rest possible. For sale at Miller's

The Shortest Will.
Probably the shortest will ever pro-
bated in Somerset county was entered
for record November 13, 1907. It was
the will of Sarah Cook, signed by a
mark. She lived in Somerset town-
ship. All it contained was:
“November 11,1907. This is my last
will and testament. I bequeath unto
my husband, Samuel Cook, all my
money, and all notes coming to me, as
my estate. I hereby appoint J. M.
Louther my executor.” Witnessed by
8. J. H. Louther and Emma Barron.

cold which lingered for weeks,” says J.
Urquhart, of Zephyr, Ontario. “My
cough was very dry and harsh. The

HUNTER KILLED.
Both Barrels of Gun Accidentally
Discharged, and Victim Bleeds
to Death.
Rockwood, Nov. 18.—Jacob Phillippi,
a well known citizen of Black town-
ship, is dead as the result of an acci-
dental shooting. Pdillippi was hunt-
ing alone, Saturday afternoon, near his
home, about four miles from here,
when his gun fell from a log and both
barrels let go. Both charges took ef-
fect, one tearing off an arm, and the
other landing in his leg.
This occurred about 4:30 in the af-
ternoon. The injured man laid where
he was shot until after 6 o’clock, when
his faint cries were heard by John
Phillippi, a brother. He was taken to
the Burkholder home nearby, and died
a short time later from loss of blood.
Phillippi was 35 years old, and mar-
ried. His wife survives him. He was
the son of Noah Phillippi. He loved to
hunt, and during each open season was
out nearly every day. The family is
well known throughout this part of
Somerset county.

A New Counterfeit.
Chief Wilkie, of the Secret Service,
reports the discovery of a new counter-
feit $10 national bank note. The coun-
terfeit is on the Wells-Fargo Nevada
National Bank of San Francisco, and is
a poor photographic reproduction
printed on heavy bond paper with no
silk fiber. The Treasury numbers
have been traced over with red ink.
The back of the note is better than the
face, being a fair imitation of the gen-
uine, except the coloring around the
charter number, which is a muddy
green.
