THE NEW COURT HOUSE.
After a conference lasting about ten
days between the County Commission-
ers of Somerset county, and the firm of
Caldwell and Drake, contractors for
Somerset’s beautiful Temple of Justice,
an agreement was reached on Friday
afternoon, and the Court House was
turned over to the County Commis-
sioners to take immediate possession.
By the terms of the agreement entered
into between the Commissioners and
the contractors, the Commissioners
paid to the contractors the amount of
money retained under the terms of the
original contract of construction, less
an amount aggregating seven thousand
dollars, which the Commissioner will
hold until they have an opportunity to
make a complete inspection of the
work, and with which sum of money
they can remedy any defects disclosed
in the inspection. It was also a part
of the agreement between these par-
ties that the occupancy of the building
is not to be construed to be an accept-
ance of it, but that any and all mat-
ters of dispute are still open to adjust-
ment. The furniture and electric fix-
tures, are all on hand to be put in
place, and it will only be a short time
until each office will be in running or-
der. The next term of Court will be
held in the new structure.
Somerset county should be congratu-
lated upon getting this magnificent
building at the cost incurred. The
contractors say that if they were to be-
gin the building at this time, that the
cost would be one hundred thousand
dollars greater than the amount ex-
ponded.—Somerset Democrat.
The above is a true statement, in
spite of all the rot and “hogwash” pub-
lished by the Somerset Herald anent
the new Court House, during the past
two years. The Herald took the ab-
surd position that a new court house
was not needed, and after the contract
was let, then it declared that the build-
ing was contracted for at an extrava-
gant price, ete., ete. But the Herald
knew it was lying all the time, and all
it was after was a political issue.
CURED OF LUNG TROUBLE
“It is now eleven years since I had a
narrow escape from consumption,”
writes C. O. Floyd, a leading business
man of Kershaw, 8. C. “I had run
down in weight to 135 pounds, and
coughing was constant, both by day
and by night. Finally I began taking
Dr. King’s New Discovery, and contin-
ued this for about six months, when
my cough and lung trouble were en-
tirely gone and I was restored to my
pormal weight, 170 pounds.” Thou-
sands of persons are healed every year.
