twin babies, a little son aged about 12
weeks, died of pneumonia at 2 o'clock,
yesterday morning. Funeral today at

to the parents in their bereavement.
Mothers who give their children Ken-

Some of the M. & S. trolley people
were arrested at the instance of the
P. & M. company, yesterday, and had a
hearing before “Squire” Levi Lichliter
today on a charge of trespass. The
charge could not be substantiated, ow-
ing to the fact that the P. & M. people
did not have their land advertised as
private property at the time the tres-
passing was alleged to have been done.
Nearly every person who is subject to
attacks from the stomach suffers from
a morbid dread of a dietetic treatment
for relief, that is three-fourths starva-
tion, and one-fourth toast and milk.
On the other hand you can eat as you
please and digest the food by the aid of
a good digestant, thus giving the tired
stomach equally as much rest. Eat
what you please and take a little Ko-
dol For Indigestion after your meals.
1t digests what you eat. Sold by E. H.
Miller. 2-1
Mrs. Edward Haselbarth is still in
the University Hospital in Philadel-
phia, where she developed a case of
typhoid fever since undergoing a sur-
gical operation some weeks ago. Her
condition is improving, however, we
are glad to note, and her husband is
also in Philadelphia, where he can
frequently cheer the patient by his
presence.
If you are Constipated, dull, or bil-
ious, or have a sallow lifeless complex-
ion, try Lax-ets just once to see what
they will do for you. Lax-ets are little
toothsome Candy tablets—nice to eat.
nice in effect. No griping, no pain.
Just a gentle laxative effect that 1s
pleasingly desirable. Handy for the
vest pocket or purse. Lax-ets meet
every desire. Lax-ets come to you in
beautiful lithographed metal boxes at
5 cents and 25 cents. Sold by Elk Lick

B. Frank Johns, a former resident of
of Salisbury, died at his, home in
Chambersburg, Pa., one day last week.
He was aged about 68 years, was a
veteran of the Civil War and a well
known contractor in the town where he
died. His wife preceded him to the
spirit land a little over a year ago. Mr.
and Mrs. Johns were childless, but de-
ceased is survived by three brothers,
one of whom is R. S. Johns, of this
place.
Food don’t digest? Because the
stomach lacks some one of the essen-
tial digestants or the digestive juices
are not properly balanced. Then, too,
it is this undigested food that causes
sourness and painful indigestion. Ko-
dol For Indigestion should be used for
relief. Kodol is asolution of vegetable
acids. It digests what you eat, and
corrects the deficiencies of the diges-
tion. Kodol conforms to the National
Pare Food and Drug Law. Sold here

Our old friend Zach Wagnercalled at
TaE STAR office, Saturday morning, to
favor us with a few dollars on subserip-
tion. We never saw him looking bet-
ter or happier, and he says he is enjoy-
ing life in every sense of the word?
Zach is now employed at the lumber
camp of Bond Bros., in Garrett county,
Md., and also worked at a lumber camp
in West Virginia, recently. Lumber-
ing is the most healthful work in (he
world, and Zack says he likes it first
rate, adding that a man who works at
it for $1.75 a day and the best of board
cannot fail to be healthy and happy.
He is right.
It’s a pleasure to tell our readers
about a Cough Cure like Dr. Shoop’s.
For years Dr. Shoop has fought against
the use of Opium, Chloroform, or other
unsafe ingredients commonly found in
Cough remedies. Dr. Shoop, it seems,
has welcomed the Pure Food and Drug
Law recently enacted, for he has work-
ed along similar lines many years. For
nearly 20 years Dr. Shoop’s Congh
Cure containers have had a warning
printed on them against Opium and
other narcotic poisons. He has thus
made it possible for mothers to protect
their children by simply insisting on
having Dr. Shoop’s Cough Cure. Sold
by Elk Lick Pharmacy. 2-
James W. Beal arrived here on
Christmas evening for a visit with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. H. Beal,
Sr. He brought a handsome young
bride with him, this time, whom he
married some time ago in Pittsburg.
James is still in the employ of the
Pennsylvania Railroad Company, and
some time ago was promoted from fire-
man to engineer. He runs on two
divisions—from Pittsburg to Oil City,
Pa., and from Pittsburg to DuBois, Pa.
He is getting along nicely, and we wish
him good luck and smooth running, not
only on his engine, but on the matri-
monial train which he recently board-
ed, as well. James and his bride re-
cently returned from New York City,
where they had been on a visit at the
home of Oscar Beal, a brother of James.
Oscar is also married and holds a good
position as conductor on one of the ele-
vated railroads in New York. He is
also getting along nicely, all of which
we are glad to learn. The Beal broth-
ers deserve credit for forging ahead in
the way that they are.
CURED OF LUNG TROUBLE.
“It is now eleven years since I had a
narrow escape from consumption,”
writes C. O. Floyd, a leading business
man of Kershaw, 8S. C. “I had run
down in weight to 135 pounds, and
coughing was constant, both by day
and by night. Finally I began taking
Dr. King’s New Discovery, and contin-
ued this for about six months, when
my cough and lung trouble were en-
tirely gone and I was restored to my
normal weight, 170 pounds.” Thou-
sands of persons are healed every year.
Guaranteed at E. H. Miller's drug
store. H0c. and $1.00. Trial bottle
free. 2-1
Big Blaze Narrowly Averted.
The alarm of fire was sounded this
forenoon, when L. C. Boyer’s wash
house was discovered to be afire. The
blaze was soon extingushed. but none
to soon to avoid a serious conflagration,
as in a few minutes more the enttre
structure and Mr. Boyer’s house would
likely have been wrapped in flames,
and then the fire would more than
likely have spread to Hay’s Hotel and
all the other buildings as far as
Loechel’s corner.
Mr. Boyer’s grandsons, Prof. C. E.
Dickey’s little boys, had been burning
some Christmas tree refuse, and then
placed some pieces of boards on the
fire, back of the house, to increase the
blaze. These were snatched off of the
pile of burning rubbish by Grandfather
Oliver Boyer, who put them under the
wash house with a lot of kindling wood,
not knowing, of course, that some of
the boards were already ignited, and in
that way the wash house and a good
sized business portion of the town was
given a close call to distruction.
