The Little Giant of Somerset County Republicanism. The above is an excellet portrait of Hon. J. A. Berkey, our efficient State Banking Commissioner and leader of the Republican party in Somerset county. He is a clean, able, fearless leader, and to his wise generalship and untiring labors in behalf of the best in- terests of the Republican party, is the great victory of the G. O. P. over the combined forces of the enemy, which was achieved last Tuesday, largely due. Right here it is but right and proper to quote the following from the Russo- Jappo-Throppo-Koontzoviskey Opera, which was compiled during the cam- paign by some unknown, but able play- wright: “Little Miss Fusion sat on a cushion, Ashamed of herself at that; Though the weather was murky, She saw J. A. Berkey, And scattered when Berkey said scat !” - ————— THE ELECTION. Great Victories Throughout the Country in General for the - Republicans. Even at the unusually late hour of going to press, this week, we are still unable to give the full official vote of Somerset county. However, suffice it to say that the grand old Republican party was more than a match . for its +g | Democratic opponents and their fool -+ | allies in this county. The entire State, District and County tickets were car- ried by the Republicans by very deci- give majorities, except the majority of Wm. C. Miller for State Senator over General W. H. Koontz. Miller carried Somerset county by 394 votes, and lost Bedford by 53 and Fulton by about 250 votes respectively. His majority over Koontz, therefore, is less than 100 votes. Cooper, Republican, has defeated Kooser, Democrat, for Congress, by about 4,000 votes in the district. Stuart, Republican, is elected Gov- ernor of Pennsylvania by about 80,000 votes. New York also has elected a Republican Governor, and probably a full state ticket. The Republicans have been pretty generally successful throughout the country, and the next Congress will have a substantial Republican majority, which insures a continuance of our country’s prosperity. The City party of Philadelphia was buried under an avalanche of Republi- can votes, which shows that the eciti- zens of that great municipality have already tired of the sham reformers they placed in office a year ago. Our two home districts, Salisbury and Elk Lick, went wrong, as did also Meyersdale. This was owing to the strong personality of Harvey Hay, our home condidate for the Legislature, in whose interest much money was thrown into the campsign, and he was also greatly aided by the intimidating tac- tics of some of the understrappers of the Merchants and Somerset Coal com- panies. Hay and his lieutenants car- ried the whole Fusion ticket with them in this mining region, but it did them no good in the end. We will have more election news and some timely comment thereon in our next issue. In the meantime, here’s three cheers and a tiger for the whole Republican ticket. Hip, hip, hurrah! MADE HAPPY FOR LIFE. Great happiness came into the home of S. C. Blair, school superintendent, at St. Albans, W. Va. when his little daughter was restored from the dread- ful complaint he names. He says: “My little daughter had St. Vitus’ Dance, which yielded to no treatment, but grew steadily worse until as a last resort we tried Electric Bitters; and I rejoice to say, three bottles effected a complete cure.” Quick, sure cure for nervous | complaints, general debility, female | Top, You Have a Right to Feel Proud and Happy.
