A Meyersdale Official Committed Parents and Four Children to County Bastile. A case of depravity at Meyersdale came to light Monday morning when officer John P. Swindell brought to Somerset on the early morning train Robert Crissey, his wife, and four young children. The parents were charged by the officer with maintain- ing a bawdy-house, and when he caused their arrest he brought the children to Somerset, probably not knowing what else to do with them. The Sheriff was in a quandary as to what he should do with bis new charge, as the. law does not sanction the im- prisonment in the county jail of chil dren of the age of the Crisseys, whieh range from five months up. Later in the day three of the children were placed in charge of the Children’s Aid Society of Somerset, but the babe is 1 still with its’ mother. The local Children’s Aid Society has been doing a noble Christian work for unfortunate children in recent years, and it should receive a liberal financial appropriation from the county, because in such cases as the one cited above it must take care of children that should be supported by the communities in which they have lived.—Somerset Standard. On the evening of June 1st, at about 10 o'clock p. m., a very pretty wedding took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Wagner, on Grant street, the contracting parties being Mr. Charles Albert Petry, the third son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Petry, 8r., and Miss Mary Ella Wagner, the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Wagner. The ceremony was performed by Rev. E. S. Johnston, D. D,, in the pres- ence of forty-eight guests, and after the ceremony a sumptuous supper was served. The wedding march was played by Mrs. Annie Wagner, and the happy couple were the recipients of many handsome and valuable presents. The bride and groom are both very estimable young people, and THE STAR joins their many admiring friends in wishing them a most happy and pros- perous voyage over the matrimonial sea. CUBAN DIARRHOEA. TU. S. soldiers who served in Cuba during the Spanish war know what this disease is, and that ordinary remedies have little more effect than so much watar. Cuban diarrhoea is almost as severe and dangerous as a mild attack of cholera. There is one remedy, how- ever, that can always be depended upon as will be seen by the following certificate from Mrs. Minnie Jacobs, of Houston, Texas: “I hereby certify that Chamberlain’s Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy cured my husband of a severe attack of Cuban diarrhoea, which he brought home from Cuba. We had several doctors, but they did him no good. One bottle of this rem- edy cured him, as our neighbors will testify. I thank God for so valuable a medicine.” For sale by E. H. Miller. 7-1 Boy Badly Wounded by Accidental Discharge of Gun. Last Saturday evening a young son of Charles Reckner, of West Salisbury, was badly wounded by the accidental discharge of a 22-caliber rifle in the hands of a playmate, a young son of Robert Gibson. The ball struck young Reckner in the abdomen, near the navel, then took a downward course, inflicting a serious wound. The ball is still in the lad’s body, and it was at first thought by the physician called that the boy could not live more than a few hours. However, we are glad to note that the doctor now believes that the lad will recover. Young Gibson was completely over- come by grief, and he was so sick for a while that he had to be put to bed. > Gruesome Find. In the cleaning of a well on the Por- ter property, on the corner of Water and Main streets, one day last week, Mr. Charles Tusing came upon a bundle of rags nicely bound up, and which was taken to the surface and found to con- tain what is supposed to have been an infant child.
