“Biff”’ Biffed ‘“‘Big AL”
Our old friend and college chum, AF
Swartzwelder, recently got into am
altercation with a miner in West Salis-
bury that goes by the name of “Biff.”
What happened, did you say? Why Al
got “biffed” so hard that it rocked him
to sleep for a while. Following is a
correct photograph of “Big Al's” fase
taken by a staff artist of THE STAR. im~
mediately after the battle.
“Biff” must be a “biffer” from Bifl-
bang, but we trust that he hasn't
shortened Als life, for he is a real niee
fellow and seldom misses a Sunday at
Sunday school or class meeting.
NO MORE STOMACH TROUBLES.
All stomach trouble is removed by
the use of Kodol Dyspepsia Cure. It
gives the stomach perfect rest by di
gesting what you eat without the
stomach’s aid. The food builds up the
body, the rest restores the stomach to
health. You don’t have to diet your
self when taking Kodol Dyspepsia
Cure. J. D. Erskine, of Allenville,
Mich, says, “I suffered Heartburn and
Stomach trouble for some time. My
sister-in-law has had the same trouble
and was not able to eat for six weeks.
She lived entirely on warm water.
After taking two bottles of Kodol Dys-
pepsia Cure she was entirely cured.
She now eats heartily and is in good
health. ‘I am glad to say Kodol gave
me instant relief.” Sold by E. H. Mil-

BURGESS APPOINTED.
Jer. J. Livengood Appointed by the-
Court to Fill Vacaney.
ThE STAR was in error, several weeks
ago, when it stated that a Burgess
would be elected at the February elee-
tion to fill the unexpired term of Ex-
Burgess M. C. Lowry, who resigned his
office some time ago. In looking up
the law governing the resignation of a
Burgess, we have found that the court
has the sole power to fill such vacaney
by appointment of a suitable persom
petitioned for by Town Council or by
any citizen residing in a borough where
such resignation has taken place.
Therefore, agreeable to the petition
of our Town Council, Jer. J. Livengood
was last week appointed to fill the un-
expired term of M. C. Lowry, and the
town deserves congratulations upon
the appointment. Mr. Livengood is
not a new man in his present official
capacity, as he has in past years served
this borough as its chief executive of-
ficer with great credit to himself and
the town. He has served more years
as Burgess than any other man in this
town, and although he is now past
three score years and ten, he is still
full of vim and vigor, and all may rely
on it that he will do his duty well.
BEGINS BY “SOAKING” AN OFFENSIVE
CIGARETTE STINKER.
Last Friday, the very day Burgess
Livengood received his commission
from the court, “Artie” Emerick, an
offensive cigarette stinker who has
been a very mouthy and troublesome
character about town for a long time,
was arrested by Policeman Thomas for
using foul and profane language on the
streets. The Burgess ordered ‘‘Artie™
placed in the “cooler” to sober up, and
the next day the prisoner was arraign-
ed before the “trim shop” tribunal and
fined $10.00 and costs, or about $12.50
in all. Of course, “Artie” didn’t have
the money to cash up, for he had jost
returned from the Broad Top mining
region the evening he was arrested,
and, as is the case with most of the
Elk Lick strikers who go and work in
other regions a while, he returned with
empty pockets; but was as full of pro-
fanity, booze and abuse as ever. How-
ever, John Schramm came to his rescue
and stood good for the fine. When
John did that he should have been in
better business; but he will learn in
| due time, never fear. Nothing but
| trouble is ever gained by nursing vi-
pers.
|
| In conclusion, let us say, the rowdies
and abusive street loafers should now
tdke warning, as Burgess Livengood
has decided to give them their medi-
| cine in big doses, regardless of race,
|'color, striker or non-striker. All Po-
| liceman Thomas will need to do now is
| to make the arrests; the Burgess will
do the rest.

The family of Mrs. M. L. Bobbitt, ef
| Bargerton, Tenn., saw her dying and
| were powerless to save her. The most
skillful physicians and every remedy

slowly but surely taking her life. In
this terrible hour Dr. King’s New Dis-

spair into joy. The first bottle brought
immediate relief, and its continued use
completely cured her. It’s the most
