From the eighteen or twenty miles now in peration along the Salisbury branch: tbout 260 cars of coal are shipped daily. All must be hauled to the junetion and hence to Sand Patch. Representative-elect John P. Me- Tighe, of Pittsburg, has a pet which he will introduce at the coming measure session of the Legislature. It will es tablish a pension fund for teachers in the common schools who have served for twenty years or more. The meas- ure will provide for five per cent. of tle State appropriation for the common schools going into the pension fund which it will establish. This appropri- ation for 1889 amounted to $5,500,000, this year to 5,000,600. A new night crew has been put on the Salisbury branch. The work of this crew consists of distributing emp- ties up the branch and hauling loaded cars to the junction. Engine 1218,with J. A. Ba at the throttle, D. Guthrie doing the shovel and rake act, and Conductor HH. Swarner carrying the books and crders, compose the crew. Engine 1272, having a westbound freight, collided with helping engine 1661 at Salisbury Junction, yesterday morning. Both engines and several cars were badly wrecked, blocking the tracks for three hours. Agent R. M. Lynch had a narrow escape, one en- gine, in its plunge, grazing the office where he was busily employed at his desk. No trainmen were injured. Major P A. Shaffer, chief engineer for the W. K. Niver Company, spent Sunday in the city. From him we learn that it is the Niver Company that has purchased the 15000 acres of coal land options that were held by Berlin parties on a tract in Brothersvalley township. He now s three surveying corps on the ground, and in a few days he ex- pects to have three more at work. If ihe weather will permit he expeets to have his part of the work along so that in about sixty days he can commence locating shafts, for the company are anxious to get these mines opened up 18 soon as possible. They now have two Diamond drills at work, and they will have two more on the ground this week, making test borings.
