Miss Pier stated her case unhesitating

It was a trying ordeal for a lady so

tional young women of to-day,

lack. Miss Pier is a native of Foil du
•jac, Wis., and a graduate of the Fon du
•ac High School. In 188 C, at the same
ime ti9 her mother, she entered the law
lepaitmcnt of the State University, and
>y taking a double course in 1887, ob
oincd her degree, entitling her to prac
ice in all the State Courts. For ten
months she held a position in the legal
tepartment of the Wisconsin Central
lailway, retiring April Ist to associate
lerself with her mother.
" Yes, I like the profession," said Miss
Mer to-day, " and also the science of
nedicine, which I have studied, too, for
tome years. While, of course, the two
ire in no way identical, still I think it

testimony as is likely to he offered in the
Croniu case."
Miss Pier's two sisters, whp have just
entered the State University for a course

G. A. R. Memorial Se vices.
Department Commander Thomas J.
Stewart will, by request, deliver a me
morial address before the comrades of
Emory Fisher Post, No. 30, of Johnstown,
in respect to the comrades who lost tl < ir
lives by the recent flood. Tim time was
set lor the latter part of this month, but
as Comrade Stewart can not be present
at that time it has been postponed until
some day next month. The Command
er's staff, including Assistant Adjutant
General McCormick, Assistant Quarter
master General Williams, Chaplain
Savers and other distinguished comrades
will be present, and will take part in the
exercises.'
Locked It Up.
Charles F. Fisher and W. 11. Noi w ,
bad an attachment issued against W. A.
Zuttdcll, who keeps a restaurant in a base
men!, OD Franklin street. Constable
Jlihcr locked up the restaurant. After
wards W. 11. Harmony the former ownei
Of the place and who still claims propri
etorship broke the lock. When the con
stable returned to make the levy, he was
ejected by narmony. The case was on
Irk before Justice A. N- Hart, and J. B.
0 C onnor, counsel for Harmony, raised
the point that no bond had been filed, and
ftsked that the defendant be discharged.
The Justice decided his point well taken
and dismissed the case.
